TITLE III - SE LEVANTA PROGRAM (K-3) BILINGUAL EDUCATION TEACHER

QU AL IF IC AT I ONS : Candidates must be New York State certified in Early Childhood, Childhood, or Elementary Education with a Bilingual extension, or Bilingual Special Education. Candidates who hold current certification from Puerto Rico, have reciprocity, and are working towards certification with New York State will be considered. Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred.

Summer school seniority is defined as previous years of BPS summer employment in a classroom setting. Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • To assist newly arrived multilingual learners with literacy skills, academic language development, and school acculturation in preparation for the upcoming school year. The program will provide service to Spanish-speaking students in Bilingual Education programs.

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

  • Develop daily lesson plans.

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • Prepare classroom for class activities.

  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

  • Identify and utilize a variety of instructional resources and methods to support the learning needs of students at varying levels of progress.

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

  • Use relevant available technology to support instruction.

  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development.

  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments as appropriate.

  • Regularly display student classroom products.

  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback on student work.

  • Ensure equitable engagement of remote learners.

  • Monitor and encourage individual student progress.

  • Provide guidance to students which will promote educational development.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.

  • Update records accurately and completely as required by laws and district policies.

  • Submit program assessment results in accordance with program guidance.

  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.

  • Manage student behavior and maintain discipline by establishing classroom rules and procedures and enforcing classroom, school, and district rules and procedures.

  • Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the total school program.

  • Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.

  • Ensure student safety, and provide for the care and protection of school property.

  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator

    ORIENTATION: One paid Teacher Professional Development Session (3.5 hours) will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021. Chosen candidates are strongly encouraged to attend. Additionally, paid teacher preparation and close-out sessions are scheduled for July 9, 2021 and August 16, 2021 (3.5 hour sessions).

    During the program, time will be allocated to embedded professional development sessions during select common planning periods, scheduled daily. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please review the dates carefully. FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE STUDENTS AND CONTINUITY OF THE PROGRAM, TEACHERS ARE EXPECTED TO SERVE THE FULL TERM OF THE PROGRAM. APPOINT M ENT: Appoint m ent will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Super i ntendent fol l owing ass e s s ment of ENL and/or Bilingual teaching experience, seniority, training, credentials, certifi c at i ons and evaluation of service.
