Cornell Cooperative Extension Camp Bristol Hills: Nurse - Canandaigua, NY in Canandaigua, New York

The mission of 4-H Camp Bristol Hills is to provide youth with a unique, fun outdoor experience under the guidance of positive role models, emphasizing positive social interaction, environmental awareness, and skill building.

The camp Nurse is needed to respond to emergencies and carry out programs of health and safety throughout the summer. The Camp Nurse will live on camp property while camp is in session.

Duration

The Camp Nurse will work at least one week during the summer program season, from 10am on Sunday morning until 5:00pm on Friday. Specific dates of camp are June 30 – August 9, 2024.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Implement the health procedures developed by the Camp Manager and stated in the health and safety plan, approved by the New York State Department of Health.

  • Provide basic medical treatment for campers and staff during the camp week, including pre-existing conditions, and emergency first aid

  • Accept all medications on arrival day from parents and turn over medications on pick up day

  • Record and report all admissions of the infirmary

  • Live on-site Sunday morning through Friday afternoon

  • Administer and record all medications and treatments according to physician’s orders

  • Order and prepare first aid kits for emergency use to all counselors

  • Review all health records of campers upon arrival in camp

  • Maintain all records of campers and staff (hospital visits, Doctor visits, medication, injuries, dietary habits)

  • Fulfill the commitment of the Mandatory Reporting law

  • Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers, and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.

  • Other duties may be assigned as required

    Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant or Medical Doctor and licensed to practice in the State of New York

  • Current First Aid Responding to Emergencies & CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification

  • Experience or background with youth

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Director, entire camp staff, campers, and camp families

  • Incorporates Teamwork and Flexibility into their daily work style

  • Ability to get to remote locations on camp property over rough terrain.

    Position Details

This is a full-time (TEMPORARY) exempt position that runs from June 30 – August 9, 2024.

Salary and Benefit Details

The salary will be based on $600/week for a range of $600 (one week) - $3,600 (six weeks) ( Rate will be reduced for any time scheduled, but not worked during the period) Salary is commensurate with experience, certifications, responsibilities, and availability . Benefits are not available for this position .
