Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Must be 18 years of age or older• Must gain knowledge of Office of Children and Family Services regulations as well as NYS Health Department regulations.• When applicable, supervise interns from FLCC for college credit program.• Design program schedule and activities, develop policies and procedures, prepare and keep updated the Program Manual, Enrollment Form, Medical Form, Parent Manual, Attendance Sheets, Payment Record, etc.• Maintain all child records, statistical forms, State license forms and annual Licensing, including Summer Day Camp Regulations.• Remain informed about current child care issues and act as an advocate for the programs.• Conduct parental and child interviews.• Enroll children and maintain current and accurate files on each child.• Handle all disciplinary action in accordance with the Program Manual.• Complete all necessary forms, speak to parents, consult, and inform the Corps Officer of action taken.• Receive and dismiss children daily in the designated area.• Ensure attendance records are maintained.• Maintain a safe environment for program.• Promote the program in the community and recruit children including, but not limited to, speaking to peer groups and other organizations.• Purchase supplies as needed (always with approval of Corps Officers).• Complete and submit, on a timely basis, all state, local and Salvation Army reports.• Carefully monitor the Phoenix After-School Program/Summer Day Camp Program budgets and assist with annual revision.• Seek and apply for grant monies and other funding sources and make sure all follow-up reports are filed so as to continue our eligibility to receive these funds.• Hire staff, if needed, and conduct staff orientation, training and evaluation.• Supervise and delegate responsibilities to other staff and volunteers, as needed.• Report any misconduct of staff, volunteers, and/or parental concerns immediately to the Corps Officers.• Administer disciplinary action as needed with the Program Manual with references to the Employee Manual.• Conduct Phoenix staff evaluations.• Keep records on staff development and training.• Be able to meet necessary State mandated in-service trainings and continuing education classes.• Oversee clean up and set up of activity rooms.• Secure special outings and activities, including transportation.• Set an example for the children, parents, staff and volunteers.• Represent The Salvation Army's spiritual ministry and social mission in the Phoenix After-School Program and Summer Day Camp.• Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Corps Officers.

Qualifications

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Education Requirements:• Associate's Degree in Child Development, Elementary or Physical Education or Recreation.OR• NYS Children's Program Administrator Credential, School Age Child Care Credential, or minimum of 2 years college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary or Physical Education or Recreation.

Experience Requirements:• Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children less than 13 years of age.AND• Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising a child care program or related work.
