Primary Responsibilities

This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience and continue education in a graduate program at St. Lawrence. This is a two or three -year, part-time position starting in July 2020. The primary function of the person in this position is to assist the faculty director in managing the day-to-day workflow of the center. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising student mentors; overseeing student committees and project teams, and managing the public relations and technology components of the center (website, email listservs, electronic sign-in/evaluation system, Facebook page, Twitter, events/announcements, brochures, posters); creating materials and leading workshops; developing new interaction models for use of the center by students, faculty, and staff; one-on-one tutorials with coursework ranging from pre-calculus to advanced mathematics theory.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required at time of employment with extensive coursework in the mathematical sciences. The Assistant Director is expected to work 15-20 hours per week at the PQRC during the academic year. As a graduate student the candidate is eligible for up to six tuition remission courses per academic year depending upon matriculation status. The appointment requires that the candidate be enrolled in at least one course at St. Lawrence University per academic year to be eligible for the student health insurance plan. Per special agreement, the student may cross register for the other five courses at SUNY Potsdam.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in the mathematical sciences is preferred.
