St. Lawrence University Principal Clerk - Bookstore - Part Time, Shipping/Receiving & Merchandising in Canton, New York

Position Title Principal Clerk - Bookstore - Part Time, Shipping/Receiving & Merchandising

FLSA Non-Exempt

Primary Responsibilities

This part-time position is primarily planned for four days/week and approximately 6.5 hours/day to perform routine clerical duties including cash register operation, customer service, shipping/receiving, merchandising of the sales floor, and store maintenance for the Brewer Bookstore. Shipping: Assist in shipping orders placed/received via www.brewerbookstore.com. Ensure all product returns (overstock, damaged, etc.) are processed properly; arrange for credits/replacements. Serve as the main contact with shipping vendors (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.). Receiving: Receive inventory for all departments. Establish a standardized receiving procedure across all departments. Maintain inventory levels; create inventory correction procedures. Review receiving documentation in Booklog. Match invoices to purchase orders for payment. Prepare reports as designated. Open mail and distribute as necessary. Primary supervisor on regularly scheduled weekends, and on other specified dates. Point-Of-Sale customer service: Ensure proper checking of merchandise, maintain forms and cash levels, keep checkout area neat and orderly. Maintain secure point-of-sale and monitor security system. Additionally, respond to customer needs, box or wrap merchandise, promote good will between Store/University and the customer/public. Regularly scheduled shift manager including: complete responsibility for opening and closing the store. Respond to all types of store issues: customer service, policies, and procedures. Store security. Control of safe including responsibility for opening it and maintaining proper cash levels in all registers. Ensure that each register is prepared for the start of business. Supervision of student employees including assignment of tasks and any necessary training. Duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT FUNCTION Departmental responsibilities to include: o Knowledge of product trends o Pricing level determination at point of receiving o Fluent use of in-store computer system—reports, inventory, ordering o Selection of merchandise for markdowns, sales, and closeouts
o Sales floor displays: standard and seasonal

Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education/Knowledge: High school diploma. • Experience: Two years of retail experience, or equivalent formal training. • Skills/Physical Requirements: o Ability to relate to students, faculty, and the public in stressful situations.
o Ability to follow instructions and complete projects satisfactorily, with or without close supervision. o Basic arithmetic: to include percentages, discounts, and simple formulas. o Good keyboarding skills. o Ability to lift and manage a 50lb box of books. o Microsoft Excel
