The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
Description
Summer Mechanical engineering intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-quality glass products. This is a dynamic position for an individual to work as part of Corning-Canton’s division engineering team. Focus areas include performing research and entry-level process work. Design and development include areas such as: process improvement, experimentation, data analysis, thermodynamic/heat transfer, product quality, measurements, and use of energy. This position involves work on factory floor with key plant personnel to plan, design, and test manufacturing processes.

Requirements
Pursuing a degree in Material Science, Ceramics Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later.
Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
Be willing to work at the posted job location.
Desired Skills:
Coursework in material science, ceramics engineering, or chemical engineering.
Experience using 3D CAD software.
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
Good written and oral communication skills.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
