Primary Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Financial Services, perform all clerical functions related to the student loan funds after certification by Financial Aid. An understanding of federal loan programs to assist students and families in completing necessary tasks to obtain and later repay such loans. Respond to student and parent inquiries regarding their accounts and assist in resolution of problems.


Respond to requests for information and questions pertaining to student loans. Provide information and assistance to students, families, alumni for issues pertaining to loans such as repayment, delinquency, overpayment, and deferment. Assist in the Universities effort to increase financial literacy with current and former students.

Communicate to first time borrowers, requirements of federal loan program for entrance loan counseling and master promissory note. Communicate PLUS loan information to parents. Monitor completion of entrance counseling, receipt of signed promissory notes, and review of required disclosures. Follow up with borrowers as required to complete loan issuance process.

Enter data to appropriate systems to disburse loans, notify students when loan proceeds have been received and credited to their account.

Monitor students with unpaid balances and perform follow up to ensure families are completing requirements to obtain loans to settle their student account. Monitor monthly delinquency/default reports, place delinquent borrowers on a transcript hold, send updated address information to loan service providers.

Monthly reports and reconciliation and related additional duties as assigned including

support of other SFS staff with the student account billing and collections processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must have strong customer service orientation and have ability to work through difficult conversations toward resolution. Must maintain strict confidentiality when working with students and families. Ability to prioritize work and manage time as expected. Experience with computer systems is required, experience with Microsoft Excel and Word is required. Ability to learn related systems required. Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and 5 years experience required. Minimum of three years of experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education is preferred. Knowledge of Ellucian platforms preferred. Knowledge of Access preferred.
