Chautauqua Institution Sailing Instructor (John R. Turney Sailing Center)/Seasonal Employment in Chautauqua, New York
Description
The John R. Turney Sailing Center (https://www.chq.org/schedule/recreation-and-fitness/sailing/) offers guided sailing excursions, private and group lessons, sailing events and rents a variety of sailboats. It is operational during the nine-week summer assembly season. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $18.00/Hour.
About Your Work Day
Effectively instruct students; ages will vary from youth to adult. Lessons include safety, boat handling and sailing in a variety of classes of sailboats.
Follow lesson plans that include dry land, on-the-water drills, and inclement weather activities.
Reports incidents and boat repair needs in a timely manner to the Director.
Assists with maintenance of the fleet which may include cleaning, inspections, and equipment upkeep.
Identify, report, and address any safety issues.
Know/review all emergency procedures; responds to emergency situations in accordance with policies and procedures.

Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.
About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
Typically, will work a four or eight-hour shift with a start time that varies between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., for a total of 35 hours per week. Must be able to work one weekend shift each week. Part-time work is available pre/post the summer season.
