The Role: Xylem is seeking Intern candidates with an Engineering or Technical background to join our team in the Cheektowaga, NY facility. As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team, the incumbent will be responsible for the execution of manufacturing process improvements both on the factory floor as well as in the office environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Experience with Six Sigma and Lean concepts driven by the identification and elimination of waste within a process.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally across multiple disciplines

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of office and shop workers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards

  • Experience working within cross functional teams

  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Attending an accredited University studying toward a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Completed schooling through Sophomore year or higher

  • Ability to self-manage projects and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient with MS Office including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint

  • Desire and ability to learn new tools and continuous improvement techniques.

  • Some design work and mechanical aptitude required

  • Support the development of timely and accurate manufacturing engineering fixes for Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost targets

  • Strong sense of ownership and drive

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Easily works alongside both shop and office personnel

  • Strong customer focus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools and methods including Waste Analysis, Process Mapping, Time Studies, DMAIC, etc.

  • Exposure to common industrial manufacturing processes such as assembly and welding.

  • Project leadership experience in a fast paced team environment
