Title: Pick-up Truck Driver - Syracuse

Reports To: Rental Manager

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for the safe and on time delivery and return of rental construction equipment using a truck and tow behind trailer.

Essential Functions:

  • Operates vehicle in compliance with all Department of Transportation, state, federal and ADMAR driving rules and regulations in a safe and courteous manner.

  • Inspect truck and trailer for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit report on the condition of the truck and trailer at the end of each trip.

  • Performs daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment prior to commencing route.

  • Report problems or issues with equipment, truck or trailer immediately to the Rental Manager. Provide a detailed description of problem/issue as they arise.

  • Load and unload trailer with mechanical freight handling equipment as required.

  • Must be able to tie down and secure equipment in accordance with DOT and company regulations.

  • Partner with Rental Manager to acquire delivery schedule and communicate delays, arrivals, and/or equipment problems as encountered.

  • Complete all required paperwork on a timely basis; thoroughly complete all forms and reports making sure all entries are correct and legible.

  • Provide operator training to customer upon delivery of equipment per ANSI and OSHA standards.

  • Promotes business by presenting professional image, positive attitude, and a clean and safe work area.

  • Work in a safe manner obeying all safety rules. Correctly use safety equipment and PPE as required.

  • Must work flexible hours which include early morning, evenings, and/or weekends, sometimes with short notice. Additional hours required during the peak season.

  • Any other duties as assigned by Rental or Branch Manager.

Position Requirements - The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required for this position.


  • Two to five year experience driving in a delivery environment.

  • Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and a minimum of two years of route deliver/driving experience.

  • Proven experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of an organization.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, high pressure environment with a high level of complexity.

  • Results and process oriented.

  • Excellent understanding of the organization-s goals and objectives.

  • Exceptional customer service orientation which demonstrates flexibility to meet customer needs.


  • Must possess a valid driver-s license and DOT Medical Card.

  • Ability to read, write and understand policies, procedures, contracts and detailed correspondence.

  • Ability to read and understand drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and perform basic math with or without a calculator.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with and respond to inquiries from customers and other employees.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English well.

  • Excellent listening skills and strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Competency working independently on a daily basis with minimal supervision.


  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.


  • Must be able to work in a driving and delivery environment which includes: frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, turning, talking, seeing, and vehicle travel.

  • Must be able to drive an automatic and operate foot pedals.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds frequently and maneuver heavier weights using proper lifting techniques and safety equipment.

  • Ability to hook and unhook trailers from trucks, including cranking lever to raise and lower landing gear.

  • Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to distinguish colors

  • Tolerant to working in an atmosphere with some exposure to cold, heat, noise, fumes and dust.
