NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Playground Associate for City Cleanup Corps in Citywide, New York
Be part of the City Cleanup Corps (CCC) at NYC Parks. We are the steward
of over 30,000 acres of land - 14 percent of New York City - including
more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach
and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more
than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball
courts, 550 tennis courts, 67 public pools, 51 recreational facilities,
15 nature centers, 14 golf courses, and 14 miles of beaches. We care for
1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 600,000
street trees, and two million more in parks. We are New York City's
principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities and

Major Responsibilities • Organize and implement group or team games,
tournaments, multi-game events and other formal competitive, artistic
and educational activities. • Organize the community by attending
meetings and assemble volunteers to assist in recreational programming,
including teen programs, holiday events, working with mobile units and
upkeep of the playground and facilities. • Demonstrate good oral
communication skills, be able to take and give direction, and create and
facilitate lesson plans for event management. • Develop various
curricula to meet facility needs, facilitate skill development among
participants/staff and evaluate outcomes and objectives during and after
program implementation. • Distribute, collect and perform minor repairs
and adjustments to athletic equipment and play materials. • Ensure
proper health and safety standards of playground; Inspect play areas and
reports evidence of unsafe or hazardous conditions. Cordon off or remove

Uphold discipline and prevent disturbances within the recreational area.
• Accurately record and track memberships, enrollments, attendance and
facility permits for membership office. • Collect and submit accurate
data, forms and reports to meet internal deadlines.
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and
either: a) Two summer seasons, or six months, of experience as an
instructor, counselor or coach in an organized recreational program;
or b) Completion of sixty credits toward a baccalaureate degree in
an accredited colleges; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or
Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city
service. New York City residency required within 90 days for all other

1. Bachelor’s in physiology, recreation or a sports-related field.
2. Experience recruiting, instructing and coaching sports, including
girls’, women’s and nontraditional sports.
3. Experience with fine arts, performing arts and decorative arts.
4. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.
5. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and
