Hamilton College Summer Camp Counselor (seasonal) in Clinton, New York

The Clinton Early Learning Center (CELC) is seeking a seasonal, dynamic and flexible individual who will work with children between 5-12 years old during our Summer Camp Program (July and August 2024). This position is offered through the CELC and is not a position within Hamilton College. Questions should be directed to Corrine Thorpe, Executive Director (cthorpe@clintonelc.com).

Start date will be July 1st, 2024, until August 30th, 2024 (new employee orientation will be held the week before). Only applicants able to work the totality of the summer will be considered. You will be scheduled for up to 8 hours Monday through Friday between 7:30am to 5:30pm. Pay starts at $15.00 an hour and may increase based on degrees, credentials and experience.

Our Summer Camp Counselor must like being outdoors, enjoys spending time with children, and is able to work in a team. Candidates must be warm, upbeat, caring, responsible and reliable.

Caring for children is done in a way that provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment in which the children can have fun.

Responsibilities of this position include - but are not limited to:

  • Respectful interaction with children.

  • Setting clear, consistent, and fair limits within the scope of the New York State School Age Child Care Regulations, OCFS and CELC policies in regard to developmentally appropriate practices.

  • Respectful interactions with families.

  • Conveying information regarding children to families in an appropriate and professional manner, while at the same time, maintaining confidentiality.

  • Respectful interactions with colleagues.

  • Implementing planned daily activities.

  • Maintain professionalism.

  • Various additional responsibilities.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • At least 1 year of experience working with school age children. Experience that qualifies candidates can include, but is not limited to - student teaching, camp counselors, and before and after school teachers.

  • Must meet the requirements set forth by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Clearance includes but is not limited to a Criminal Fingerprint Check and approval through the New York State Child Abuse Registry. Clearance and all paperwork must be completed prior to start date (July 1st).

  • Must have a Tuberculosis test and a physical exam, completed on Clinton Early Learning Center's form before start date of July 1st.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.

  • CPR & First Aid certifications are a plus.

  • MAT training is a plus.
