Hamilton College Summer Residence Director in Clinton, New York
Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director, the Summer Residence Director (SRD) is a live-in professional who facilitates, creates, maintains, and promotes a just, purposeful, and secure residential community supporting the learning mission of the Hamilton College Opportunity Program. This position will play a pivotal role for the 2022 Summer Program that focuses on fostering education, social and community-focused opportunities for student growth and development. Responsibilities include:
providing and supervising social, cultural, and recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; for students and staff
conducting nightly rounds (with the RA staff) to ensure the safety of all residents
maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing personal, social, and academic peer counseling to students
assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; providing a reasonably safe learning environment for the students within the residence halls (including laundry, clean-up, etc)
lead facilitated discussions/dialogues surrounding difficult conversation/topics
encouraging students to take responsibility of their residence halls
attending regular weekly staff meetings with Director and Assistant Director
ensuring summer staff work collaboratively to engage with and support students
responding to emergency situations
supervising Summer Program staff and hosting daily meetings with staff
supporting the Director/Assistant Director with daily logistical challenges/planning
provide administrative assistance to the Opportunity Program Office as needed
other duties as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director.
The Summer Residential Director will also be responsible for overseeing the academic tutoring aspects of the summer program. Responsibilities include:
Collaborating with the Tutor Coordinator and RA’s to oversee evening tutoring sessions
Supervising the tracking of tutor and tutee hours for required program reporting
ensuring that a quiet atmosphere conducive to learning is maintained during evening tutoring hours
coordinating nightly meetings with tutors/staff before the start of tutorial sessions
communicate with the Director/Assistant Director regarding student updates and tutorial reports
The Summer Residence Director is required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program including weekends, and participate in a multi-day (June 28-July 1) residential staff orientation preceding the summer program (July 2-August 6). Benefits include cost of room and meals. A valid driver’s license is preferred.
