The Athletic Trainer/Academic Support Liaison responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for all intercollegiate athletic teams at home sporting events and practices.

  • Designing and providing preventative and rehabilitative programs for all student-athletes during preseason, in season, and off season time periods.

  • Conducting student-athlete intake assessments (pre-participation documents, athletic questionnaire, baseline testing) and maintaining medical records for all student-athletes.

  • Completing injury documentation utilizing injury reports and proper insurance forms.

  • Developing and maintaining effective physical fitness and strength/conditioning plans that are shared with student-athletes and coaches.

  • Assist with academic retention and tracking of student-athletes.

Essential Functions

Head Athletic Trainer:
  • Provide immediate care for injuries at all home events and practices; including rehabilitation services for return to play

  • Provide taping and wrapping services to all student athletes

  • Provide injury evaluation and referral services to student athletes

  • Provide athletic training coverage at all home events

  • Assist with supervision and set-up of team practices and events.

  • Advise athletes on proper use of equipment and stretching/injury prevention techniques as well as nutritional plans and physical fitness plans.

  • Coordinate pre-participation examinations and essential paperwork with the College Nurse for student athletes.

  • Evaluate and administer pre-participation concussion testing and concussion return to play protocols

  • Maintain proper medical record /documenting on all injuries and treatments

  • Serve as the liaison between Athletics and the Business Office with matters involving injury reports and insurance claims

  • Maintain medical travel kits for practices and away games

  • Serve as the liaison between college and local medical personnel/facilities; specifically Guthrie as our sponsoring medical provider for athletics

  • Ensure that all athletic equipment meets safety standards and requirements

  • Assist with inventory, laundering and preparation of athletic uniforms/practice clothing

    Academic Support Liaison:

  • Responsible for connecting all student athletes with their instructors to develop relationships for academic success

  • Coordination of activities aimed at introducing the student athletes to campus academic resources to promote success, retention and persistence

  • Tracking data reflecting recruitment, retention, persistence and completion of student athletes

  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association certification (NATABOC)

  • NYS Athletic Trainer License
