Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
Corning’s summer internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. You’ll live, work, and experience the communities in which Corning operates, while building on-the-job skills. As our Intern, you will be involved with the development of new testing Method. You will also work on the development of High strain rate Sharp impact testing.
The purpose of our Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for our immediate and future needs.
To be considered for an internship at Corning Incorporated, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Reliability Testing - Mechanical
Experimental Data Analysis
Experimental Test development.
Travel Requirements (please note if international): We do not anticipate travel
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
M-F 8am – 5pm
Some flexibility available
Duration: Summer 2020, 8-12 weeks
Education and Experience
Enrolled in a Graduate Level Mechanical or Material Engineering program.
Preferred PhD Candidate.
Strong background and experience in mechanical design and prototyping.
3D CAD experience.
Material testing experience at high strain rate.
Fundamental understanding of Kolsky Bar.
Experience in conducting Mechanical testing on Brittle materials.
Project leadership Skills
Excellent critical analysis, and logic/reasoning skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors.
Working knowledge of basic statistics and process engineering principles.
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Solid Mechanics and Fracture Mechanics
Fine Element Modeling
Experience testing glass to failure in a lab setting and running experiments.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC principles
Collaboration in a multicultural environment
Soft Skills Communication/Team/Leadership
Open and engaging to effectively collaborate with others
Strong attention to detail
Able to handle ambiguity to get results
Strong verbal and written communication skills
