Purpose of the Position:
Join Corning’s glass melting engineering community to have the opportunity to work on a variety of melting technologies, compositions, products, and locations. Projects range from equipment design improvement, glass tank build/rebuild support, performance troubleshooting and new design migration. Applications are diverse, for example Pharmaceutical Tubing, Gorilla Glass, Display Technologies and R&D platforms.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Apply engineering fundamentals to support manufacturing performance improvement through equipment design, material changes or process setup.
Develop and verify design concepts that enable new glass compositions or platform capabilities to maintain Corning’s competitive position.
Engineering calculations and numerical modeling of structure, thermal and fluids
Evaluating the viability of design changes and participating in design reviews
Reporting out to supervisor or project leader on status, trends, test results and decisions
Detailing drawings and compliance with department drawing and file standards
Technical support for glass melting design projects across Corning divisions.
Working on/with diverse teams to achieve project goals associated with glass melting improvements.
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 2+ years working toward a BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline, working toward an advanced degree preferred
No prior experience required. Previous industrial experience is a plus.
Required Skills :
Strong engineering fundamentals and technical curiosity to learn, engage, drive solutions and advance technology.
3D CAD experience and proficiency (SolidWorks preferred) to implement practical design solutions .
Familiarity with mechanical and thermal analysis (SolidWorks Simulation and COMSOL preferred)
Desired Skills :
Experience with Hot material process, such as melting and forming
Knowledge of glass process modeling capability and how to use modeling tools spanning from early stage innovation to late stage manufacturing
Knowledge of Corning processes and business systems as well as being passionate about learning new technologies.
Experience with software, such as JMP, MatLab, MindJet, etc.
