HANAC, Inc. Group Leader - Summer Only in Corona, New York

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

The Group Leader will be an experienced and energetic individual who will provide supervision to the Summer / After School classes and support the program curricula. The Group Leaders will facilitate activities but not limited to homework help, arts & crafts, sports, health & fitness, nutrition, dance, and STEM education.

Pay rate: $20/hourly

Work Schedule: 

Monday-Thursday 11:30am-6pm Fridays 8am-6pm

Hours for the last week of the Summer Rising Program will be from 8am-6pm. 

(Must be available from July 1st to August 16th)

Location: PS 19Q; 40-10 99th Street Corona NY 11368

Essential Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the participants in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.

  • Will help the Group Leaders supervise, participate in and administer recreational activities for youth, and families.

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for participants in the After School Program.

  • Assisting in the implementation of a variety of age-appropriate and theme related activities.

  • Help provide homework assistance for all students in the homework session and guide them in academic growth.

  • Assist with distribution and collection of parent surveys.

  • Work cooperatively with peers, professional staff, and other departments.

  • Maintain equipment, storage facilities and inventory.

  • Work closely with the program administration to ensure best practices/program quality.

  • Assist program administration with maintaining accurate program documentation (incident, accident and behavioral reports, attendance and sign-in/sign-out sheets).

  • Consults with the Program Director when difficult or unfamiliar situations arise.

  • Actively participate in all training's sessions, designated meetings and special events.

  • Will maintain a close relationship and report to the Program Director for delegated tasks and future assignments.

  • Completes all job-related tasks and uses program time effectively during schedule working hours.

    Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED required.

  • The Group Leader should be a College Student who is a certified matriculating college attendee. The college students will be responsible for the implementation of the diverse activities that will be offered to our program participants.
