HANAC, Inc. Program Director Assistant in Corona, New York

The HANAC Beacon program is operated by HANAC Inc. and serves children in grades K-12, and adults of all ages. The Beacon program runs a full-service afterschool program designed to help our younger community members acquire the skills they need to graduate from high school, succeed in their chosen career, and give back to the community. Typical programs and activities include Homework Help, Tutoring, S.T.E.A.M., Dance, Cheer, Arts & Crafts, Zumba, Adult ESL and TASC, High School and College Access, Holiday Open programs, Summer Camp, and Sports & Recreation.

Job Summary:

The Program Director Assistant is responsible for modeling positive social interactions through combined academic, social, health, and recreational programming. He/She will assist in the guidance, supervision, and safety of the Beacon staff and participants while participating in activities to ensure encouragement and support. The Assistant Director must possess effective supervision and management skills, care for our community, and commit to providing high-quality services with great integrity.


  • Support the planning, implementation, and supervision of all program activities

  • Serve as the Acting Director in the Site Director absence

  • Support the supervision of the centers, 20+ staff, during the school year and summer programings.

  • Assist with supervising evening staff assignments and creating program schedules.

  • Implement all safety, security, and emergency policies and procedures per HANAC, DOH, DOE, and DYCD regulations.

  • Develop and implement a recruitment and retention plan to ensure all enrollment and rate of participation goals are met/exceeded

  • Conduct regular and effective community/program outreach.

  • Collaborate on community and special projects and events as needed.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and aptitude in leading new initiatives as needed.

  • Support with administrative tasks including, but not limited to, maintain participant and staff files, participant’s registration process, and tracking and documenting attendance.

  • Communicate changes in programming to staff members, participants, school administration and families as needed.

  • Supervise and meet with staff regularly.

  • Attend and facilitate meetings and professional development training as assigned.

  • Draft incident reports, and complete proper documentation as needed by HANAC, DYCD, DOE, and DOH.

  • Manage and teach as needed during holiday breaks, and Summer Camp programming.

  • Complete any tasks deemed necessary by the Site Director or HANAC administration.


  • BA in Education or related Human Service Field preferred, AA in Education or Human Service Field with 2 or more years of experience.

  • Previous experience in youth development, education, or after-school preferred

  • Strong communication skills

  • Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Fluent English and Spanish is highly desirable.

  • Must be able to work Evenings, Saturdays and Holidays

  • The potential candidate must complete 30 plus hours of Child Care training including CPR and First Aid.

Salary/ hourly rate:$20.00


School Year

  • 4 weekdays, Saturdays and some Open Holidays

  • Weekday Hours vary between 2 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

  • Saturdays required from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

  • School Holidays: hours vary between 8 a.m. and 5:00 p.m


  • Must be available July 1st thru the 3rd week of August

  • Monday thru Friday only- hours vary between 8 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
