Shift Schedule : Monday – Friday 8:30am–4:00pm

Salary : Salary pay range is min. $16.50 to a max. $21.49 per hr. based on education & experience

    Job Summary:

    With the general supervision of the Recovery Center Program Manager, performs a wide range of recovery-based services, vocational/educational training, skills training, driving a company owned bus or van, transporting consumers to and from activities based on a pre-determined schedule, and reporting functions related to the day-to-day operations of the Recovery Center Program. Peer Outreach Coach will use their personal recovery story and life experiences, while working from a peer perspective to help guide members on their path to recovery. Individual should strive to create a healing environment that respects the perspectives and experiences of the individuals, families, staff, and communities we serve by practicing safe, respectful communication as well as respecting individuals’ boundaries and differences.

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate and implement activities and programs beneficial to Recovery Center members

  • Work closely with the Peer Outreach Team as well as the Program Manager to develop recovery-based programing

  • Markets programs and activities to service providers, community partners, potential members as well as active members in the Recovery Center while developing community-based relationships.

  • Participate in community events to represent both the Recovery Center and the agency.

  • Participates in outreach to help increase membership and participation in the Recovery Center.

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation for members attending activities using an agency provided vehicle and is comfortable driving a 16-passenger vehicle.

  • Links members together, and with their community, to help with developing interpersonal skills and to become independent.

  • Share personal experience to support others’ recovery in an appropriate and respectful manner

  • Serve as a role model for members about self-help techniques and self-help group process

  • Actively participate with the members in scheduled activities with a positive attitude and be able to lead group discussions.

  • Keep attendance records and document interactions with members in progress notes within our electronic health record (AWARDS).

  • Regular attendance of meetings, trainings, and conferences.

  • Can efficiently utilize Microsoft office applications, navigate the internet, utilize program software, and electronic health records for documentation.

  • Can work both as a team and independently and has the ability to use best judgement during outings and off-site activities.

    Education and Experience:

    High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with special needs consumers in a recovery-based or vocational/rehabilitative setting. Lived experience with mental health services required. Completion of or significant progress toward the Peer Certification Program is required within one (1) year of hire date. Must maintain certification throughout employment. Possession of the CPRP credential is a plus. Must have a valid NYS driver license.

    Knowledge:

    Demonstrated knowledge of mental health challenges and available support services; the unique needs of persons affected by mental illness; psychology, personality, and group dynamics; the human services system; principles and practices of conflict and crisis management; the recovery based psychiatric model of service delivery. Has a basic understanding of the importance of working from a trauma sensitive perspective. Motor Vehicle regulations and safe driving techniques; general knowledge of geographical area. Knowledge of Crisis Intervention and Early Engagement.

    Skills and Abilities:

    Familiarity with service area; experience working with the special needs’ population; strong organization skills; ability to teach others and provide services in a group setting.

    Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals, both verbally and in writing. To listen, understand, and appreciate the experience of staff and clients and to establish rapport and meaningful professional relationships. Have the skills in patients, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and creating a sense of inclusion and belonging for all members and staff.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

    General Recovery Center, common office space, and/or Community setting. Must be able to drive for long periods of time and work safely in extreme seasonal weather conditions.
