The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area Social Ministry & Seasonal Coordinator in East Northport, New York

Overview

The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator provides support and direction to people in most need. This person takes the lead for the corps mobile food pantry in our service area. This person understands and supports the mission of The Salvation Army. This person provides help and support in the corps seasonal efforts to raise funds.

Responsibilities

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator assists during the Red Kettle Campaign, establishing or maintaining relationships with donors, working with a computer data base, completing bank deposits, and supervising bell-ringers (fundraisers).

  • To abide by the requirements set forth in The Salvation Army Nondisclosure Agreement for Social Services Personnel.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator has the ability to accurately oversee caseload of 25 adults. This caseload will be accessed in a mobile way, through the use of a van.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator provides supportive assistance to the client caseload in efforts to identify and resolve issues that interfere with the client’s ability to find solutions to their current needs. This can include, but is not limited to, public assistance needs, vocational/employment needs, medical needs, mental health needs, educational needs, independent living skills, financial planning, etc.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator actively engages the clients in public assistance and securing benefits.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator maintains accurate and detailed case progress notes for every client meeting and engagement that takes place. The Case Manager also enters said case notes in the approved computer database of client records.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator interfaces with various social service agencies in the non-profit and countywide sector for the purposes of advocacy and/or education on new referral sources.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator performs all concrete casework requirements and referrals, including assessment and entitlement, in a timely manner.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator identifies clients in need of external services, contacts these social service agencies regarding the client, and helps in establishing relationships with other service providers.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator completes all required paperwork, i.e. bi-weekly service plans, case management notes, referral sheets, and statistical requirements in a timely basis

  • As part of the social service team, The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator supports the client’s goal of finding long-term permanent solutions.

  • The Social Ministry and Seasonal Coordinator participates in weekly staff meetings.

  • The Social Ministry will be assigned to work 5 hours per day, 5 days a week.

  • Has respect and consideration for the people being served.

  • Consistently reports to work on time and is ready to begin work at the start of the shift

  • Always provides proper notification as per Salvation Army procedures when late or absent.

  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.

  • Able to perform duties independently, with minimal need of direct supervision.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients, shelter/programs, agency, and/or The Salvation Army.

  • Reports to work well-groomed and in compliance with dress code.

  • Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers and co-workers.

  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace and towards the job.

  • Projects a good image in dealing with the public and its clients.

  • Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring program.

  • Able to drive a 12-passenger van for a period of 5-8 hours a week

  • Able to lift 20-40 pounds of weight.

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a coordinator of fundraising events.

  • Experience working with clients pursing independence and self-sufficiency outcomes is preferred.
