Thermo Fisher Scientific Facilities Maintenance - Days, Rochester in Fairport, New York

Provide facilities maintenance support to the Central Technical Services team supporting 24/7 production across three Rochester locations. The focus of this position will be on buildings and grounds upkeep and to support successful operation of all facilities related systems. Responsible for building maintenance including painting, carpet installation, drywall, masonry repair, plumbing and minor construction work. May also troubleshoot and repair equipment/facilities breakdowns, perform preventative maintenance tasks and office moves. Individual may support capital projects including contributing ideas and suggestions to improve facilities practices and operations to achieve success within the project, department and sites. Generate work orders to document, track, plan and schedule maintenance and repair activities. May work with or direct contractors and vendors performing services to Thermo Fisher. Provide clear communication with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure instructions are clear and understood.

What will you do?


  • Supports 24/7 facilities/production operations at all 3 Rochester locations.

  • Provide building and grounds maintenance including, but not limited to painting, carpet installation, drywall, masonry repair, plumbing and minor construction work.

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and calibrations and other tasks as assigned for plant utilities.

  • Provides technical support, training and assistance to maintenance personnel and contractors as required to troubleshoot and repair facilities equipment.

  • Generates, reviews, and adheres to all written procedures

  • Works with the Central Technical Services and Operations teams on the development and execution of plant shutdown activities.

  • Manages and performs plant facilities projects as assigned.

  • Monitors construction activities to ensure quality, cost and timing goals are met.

  • Ensures building exterior and interior is kept in presentable condition.

How will you get here?


  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ yrs of building maintenance or construction experience, preferably in a 24/7 FDA environment with cGMP knowledge.

  • Proficient in basic computer skills including Windows, Excel, Word and Power Point

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably in SAP

  • Proficiency in project management researching and locating appropriate manpower, equipment, machine components through creation of requirements documents and competitive bids.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics, P&ID's and engineering drawings of equipment.

  • Experience with equipment predictive, preventative, calibration programs and requirements.

  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Self-starter, mature, independent and dependable.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced results orientated environment.

  • Effective time management, multitasking and prioritization skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Provide technical support when requested from internal and external department members.

  • Valid driver's license.


  • Must be able to move up to 50 lbs.

  • Work in all types of environment all seasons associated with job Indoor/outdoor, physical environment.

  • Must be available to support shift work & weekend work as deemed necessary for operations to support production needs.

  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment is required.

  • Requires standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing and crawling.

  • Must be able to work of ladders or lift equipment.
