Summary:

New York Edge is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable and reliable individual to fill the role of Robotics Specialist at our Far Rockaway school location. In this part time role, you will build a strong program so that students can eventually participate in Robotics competitions. New York Edge Robotics Specialists must embrace positive child and youth development principles and practices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Model how to program and build structurally sound robots using the LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Kit, and support groups of students in building and programming their own.

  • Teach students the principles of Robotics including the functions of power source, sensors, motors and structural members of a robot.

  • Document the students' individual and group progress throughout the program.

  • Prepare and teach sequential skill-building lesson plans.

  • Define objectives for all lessons and clearly communicate objectives to students.

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the students' varying needs, interests, and developmental levels.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of LEGO robotics, problem-solving skills, and simple computer programming skills.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work with children in a co-teaching capacity

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work during after-school hours, i.e. 2:30-6pm at least a couple of days each week.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. MA in progress preferred

  • Minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in engineering and robotics

  • Specific knowledge of Lego Robotics is strongly preferred

  • Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth

  • Must have knowledge in a variety of engineering techniques, equipment, terminology, and vocabulary.

  • Computer science/math/science/engineering background and/or experience with robotics preferred

  • Experience working with children and urban communities preferred

Covid-19 Related Requirements:

  • Proof of Vaccination is required.

  • Must be willing to adhere to all federal, state, and local mandates regarding the Covid-19 virus which include but are not limited to wearing PPE and remaining socially distant.
