Job Descriptions:

W. W. Norton is seeking a Marketing Research and Strategy Manager to join its College department. The Marketing Strategy Manager is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing plans for books and media in disciplines that will vary each year. The person will work closely with their Marketing Research and Strategy Manager partners each year to effectively promote Norton’s front list titles in two disciplines each year. The Marketing Strategy Manager will also work closely with the Directors of Marketing on marketing plans and initiatives that are not discipline specific. This position requires someone who is highly collaborative and thrives when working on a team, but also someone who is a self-starter who takes initiative and full ownership over their projects. An ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and collaborator, highly creative, analytical, and organized. They should be able to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, turn ideas into action, and regularly assess the efficacy of their campaigns. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing Research, Advertising, and Strategy.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Product marketing for two disciplines each year

  • Implementing marketing plans for cross-departmental, non-discipline specific initiatives, such as promoting Norton’s approach to the customer experience

  • Using Pardot and Salesforce extensively to capture and engage and nurture leads, track campaign results, and monitor the sales pipeline

  • Creating content and host events for lead generation, including workshops with authors, webinars with Norton employees, workshops with faculty advocates, and blog posts

  • Designing and executing comprehensive email marketing strategies, including writing email copy for advertising and direct marketing emails, project managing emails in Pardot, designing emails when necessary, and implementing changes to the plan throughout the year

  • Engaging with instructors using direct marketing techniques and enter information in Salesforce accordingly

  • Working with advertising team on all advertising-related projects (print pieces, online ads, videos, website copy, etc.)

  • Attending book team meetings

  • Owning the August sales conference presentation and take responsibility for the outline, the presentation materials, and all logistics

  • Helping create any remaining sales tools determined by the group to be necessary during the course of the sales year

  • Tracking ROI of marketing activities and regularly analyze efficacy of campaigns, making adjustments when appropriate

  • Reading and responding to Action Plans in Salesforce, providing content- and competition-focused guidance

  • Attending academic conferences and organize events to drive booth traffic and increase engagement with instructors

  • Collaborating with discipline editors to write the Field Notebook Sheet Copy

  • Creating marketing collateral, such as flyers, email copy, videos, presentation slides

  • Designing, testing, and deploying email campaigns

  • Coordinating marketing plans with Marketing Research and Strategy Managers

  • Updating and writing copy for relevant Norton webpages

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the U.S. is required

  • 3 years of proven experience in marketing or higher education publishing sales preferred

  • Must be highly disciplined and self-motivated

  • Must be collaborative and enjoy working on a team

  • Must have the ability to analyze results and assess efficacy of marketing activities.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize

  • Must have superior verbal and written communications

  • Must be organized, responsive, and detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes

  • While travel is light, candidates must be willing and able to travel several times per year throughout the United States and Canada. Travel includes attending academic conferences, meetings with instructors on college campuses, Norton sales conferences twice per year, and marketing meetings at Norton’s headquarters in New York

  • Must be able to work full business hours

  • Must be able to adjust as necessary as there will be variation in the disciplines that Marketing Strategy Manager works on each year
