Assistant Director of Residence Life for Staff Training and Development

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is one of four leaders in the Department of Residence Life at SUNY Geneseo, a premier public liberal arts college. A primary focus of the position is the promotion of student and staff learning through the implementation and assessment of department training, development, and cocurricular initiatives. The Assistant Director provides direct oversight of the coordination and execution of student staff selection and other departmental committees. The selected individual supervises and evaluates professional staff, manages student staff employment accountability, and is a resource to all Resident Assistants. The Assistant Director participates in the 24 hour third tier duty rotation for residential emergencies and executes summer responsibilities as assigned.
Master’s Degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel/development, counseling, education or related field. Some experience in counseling relationships and evidence of competence in the field of human relationships.
Prior experience in the management of college/university residence halls or a comparable area related to student and campus life. Significant experience in problem solving, decision making, collaboration, team building, and training, with emphasis on facilitation of processes including, but not limited to staff recruitment and selection, learning outcomes, co-curricular development, assessment, mentoring/coaching, committee work, leadership, and crisis response.
Proficient in MS Office and Google Suite. Excellent customer service, collaboration, event planning, facilitation, and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must show adaptability,creativity,positivism, and have the ability to work autonomously and with a team. Must demonstrate a desire to work with and be inclusive toward diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Specific experience in the management of university/college residence halls and/or apartments. Documented success in the area of staff supervision and the ability to work with college students. Professional experience in Residence Life or commensurate experience in student life work.
