Position Summary

The Red Hook Student Success Coordinator within the Office of Enrollment Services plays a crucial role in helping students navigate through the challenges of higher education by guiding, mentoring, and advocating for student success in the Greg and Elizabeth O’Connell Red Hook Scholars Program and other scholar’s programs. Over time, the work of this position primarily focuses on connecting students from diverse backgrounds to essential campus resources, providing peer tutoring services, and delivering holistic advising to promote their academic and personal success. As a new entity, the Red Hook Student Success Coordinator will collaborate with key offices in the recruitment, coordinating summer pre-college programming, onboarding process, mentoring, and academic counseling of students within the scholar’s program.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of one year of experience in student services/student affairs, student success and retention or admissions

  • Must demonstrate commitment and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents supporting campus and department missions

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, the public, the university community, and external stakeholders

  • Ability to analyze, mediate, and resolve complex problems

  • Initiative, creativity, and the ability to function well in an environment that promotes both teamwork and independence

  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration from multiple departments

  • Demonstration of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality

Job Duty/ Responsibility

· Serve as direct liaison and point of contact with RHI staff and high schools within Red Hook and leads outreach efforts to attract students interested in the scholar’s program.

· Serve as primary counselor and mentor for all scholar’s students through graduation.

Percentage Of Time 20%

· Collaborates with marketing and communications on creating promotional material for the scholar’s program, along with content.

· Partner with the registrar, academic advising, financial aid, academic departments, and associate director of transfer admissions as needed to ensure student success, including planning and assessment of academic progress.

· Provide support with internships and other applied experiences in collaboration with the Career Design Center, such as research, etc.

Percentage Of Time 20%

· Planning and leads summer pre-college programming initiatives.

· Provide pre-orientation support to enrolled students (pre-arrival “what to expect” checklist, logical support – transportation arrangements to campus, if needed, etc.

· Facilitate orientation, first-year experience sessions, and biweekly check-in meetings, followed by monthly coaching and mentoring, which will focus on team building and community.

· Facilitate tutoring and other services for students soliciting additional support.

· Assist students in navigating academic policies and procedures, provide technical support, and policy interpretation.

· Utilize EAB Navigate to track student success of cohort.

· Provide other activities designed to support student success.
