Hobart and William Smith Colleges Associate Director of Financial Aid in Geneva, New York

Administer loan and federal aid programs at HWS and provide a high level of student focused customer service. Provide personal and financial aid application assistance to students and parents. Assist in the administration of the financial aid program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Build a cooperative relationship with parents and students, other university offices and the community at large.

  • Administration and maintenance of the Federal and PELL loan programs.

  • Coordinate upper-class and outreach to potential transfer student application review, packaging, verification and appeals processing; assist with first year students as needed.

  • H elp develop and expand system applications to the financial aid process.

  • Monitor and act as liaison for the federal work-study program; end of year one-time manual disbursement.

  • Review potential over-awards on a weekly basis and coordinate the selection of recipients for endowed scholarships.

  • Act as liaison with the Office of Student Accounts regarding weekly disbursements.

  • Provide individual assistance and counseling for students, including annual forms workshops and individual appointments and state reports.

  • Remain current with knowledge and use if institutional software (PowerFAIDS, ELM, EDconnect, NYSHESC, Peoplesoft, Slate, and Web Client) .

  • Insure compliance with all federal and state regulations pertaining to the administration of financial aid.

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of office philosophies, policies, procedures and on-going maintenance of the HWS financial aid webpage; review and administration of office wide communications.

  • Assist with on and off campus events as needed including occasional Saturdays and evenings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Other Information:

    This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours’ time period. Annual salary range is $80,000 - $85,000.

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 1-3 years direct experience in financial aid, with solid knowledge of the federal programs and alternative loan programs. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Experience in and knowledge of computer systems, preferably PowerFAIDS, ELM, EDConnect, Slate, FTP, and Microsoft Office preferred. Detail oriented person with ability to interpret and understand policy. Individual should have a strong sense of initiative and a willingness to learn and adapt to change. Must have ability to prioritize many varied functions within a deadline driven environment.
