Hobart and William Smith Colleges Digital Communications Coordinator in Geneva, New York

The Digital Communications Coordinator is essential in supporting the mission of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, serving as a key member of the Marketing and Communications team and providing leadership on digital projects. The Digital Communications Coordinator has a knowledge of marketing principles, audience segmentation and industry trends, or a willingness to learn. Working daily with the offices of Communications, Advancement, Admissions and Athletics, the Coordinator creates and manages all email communications for Advancement and Athletics, oversees the implementation of and manages the Emma email system for Advancement, collaborates with Admissions on digital projects, manages the EventBrite platform, and assists in the planning and implementation of a robust digital marketing plan. This is a wonderful position for someone who wants to take a leadership role in creating and executing communications plans.

The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Communications and works closely with the Director of Marketing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages the email stream for Advancement (Annual Fund, Alumni/ae Relations, Leadership Giving, Donor Relations and Parent Relations) and Athletics. Collaborates with Admissions on prospective student email communications.

  • Monitors and analyzes email delivery, open rates, click through rates.

  • Makes recommendations for improved efficiencies and effectiveness in use and selection of electronic communications tools.

  • Provides ongoing updates and consultation to Advancement staff on the use of communications tools.

  • Manages the Office of Advancement communications calendar and holds regular meetings with Advancement colleagues to ensure appropriate timing and messaging to various constituencies.

  • Participates in the creation and management of the Colleges’ digital marketing plan, including running digital advertising and assessing effectiveness.

  • Edits audio and assists in content creation for various podcasts (no technical experience necessary).

  • Manages the office budget and orders materials.

  • Assists with special projects and attends events at night and on weekends as necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

This administrative position is full-time, 12-month, benefit-eligible Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year with a possible shortened work week during the scheduled summer hours. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.

  • A bachelor’s in marketing, communications or related field required.

  • Experience in a higher education or public relations setting preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized and able to manage priorities on deadline and in a fast-paced environment.

  • Has a clear sense of public relations judgment and professionalism

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and e-mail delivery tools like Emma and Slate preferred, or willingness to learn.

  • Ability to use the Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop).

  • Enthusiasm for exploring and learning about emerging technologies and platforms.

  • Sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills a must.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative

  • Strong customer service orientation; positive, helpful, resourceful

  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of others

  • Highly reliable, flexible and adaptable
