Hobart and William Smith Colleges Multimedia Specialist I in Geneva, New York

The role of the Multimedia Specialist I is to provide technical support to students, faculty, staff and other constituents of the Colleges in relation to the set up and operation of audio, video and production equipment for events and classrooms as well as for the production of audio-visual materials; supports the ongoing planning and development of technology in multimedia classrooms and campus locations and supports the existing planning and implementation of refreshed audio and video hardware installations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Acts as SME for Video services for events on campus.

  • Acts as SME for Audio services for events on campus.

  • Assists faculty, staff, and departments in the identification of problems related to multimedia supported classrooms.

  • Assists customers in the identification of appropriate multimedia technologies, writing of specifications, product evaluations, price quotations, purchasing equipment, evaluating effectiveness of equipment, and training to effectively operate multimedia systems.

  • Active involvement with cross-unit project teams.

  • Assists with the scheduling of repair and maintenance, evaluating services, and making recommendations for growth and reallocation of resources when needed.

  • Supports the upkeep of accurate equipment inventory records for all audio and visual equipment and related multimedia classroom equipment.

  • Provides technical assistance over the phone, email or in-person as needed.

  • Supports the working order of audio and visual equipment and operates or coordinates the operation required for campus events

  • Creates, updates and/or maintains technology or service documentation.

  • Provides recommendations for improvements to operational efficiency that will result in better service to constituents of the Colleges.

  • Tests, assesses, and remains current on updates and new technologies.

  • Assists in the training of student staff.

  • Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization, and data management while promoting a security culture.

  • Must complete all required federal, state, institutional, and department training.

  • Engages in a planned program of professional development. Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry, including best practices, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.

  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.

  • Performs other related duties as required

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours’ time period. Occasional weekend and evening hours will be required to support campus events, as well as participating in team On-Call responsibilities. Yearly salary range- $35,000- $50,000

  • 1-3 years technical support experience, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training on classroom and event audio and visual equipment and systems.

  • Must work well under pressure and have excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate technical processes to non-technical individuals.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
