Hobart and William Smith Colleges STEM Career Coordinator, Salisbury Center for Career, Professional & Experiential Education in Geneva, New York

As a member of the Career Services team, the STEM Career Coordinator will contribute to the strategic leadership of the Center by proactively partnering and collaborating internally and externally to build the future of STEM career education at the Colleges. This is a three-year grant funded position.

STEM Career Coordinator will cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to (1) make full- and part-time employment, internships and career opportunities available to students and (2) facilitate relationships between faculty and industry scientists. This will include identifying and cultivating relationships with parents, alumni and alumnae as employers and educating them on breadth of knowledge, skills, and abilities that HWS graduates can bring to their workplace. Travel will be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment:

• coordinate and host on-campus and virtual STEM recruiter sessions and promote students' candidacy; partner with Health Professions Advisors as needed

• develop and maintain relationships with STEM employers, alumni, alumnae and parents

• develop and maintain relationships with STEM faculty to further meet the needs of students

• meet regularly with faculty via department meetings or individual outreach

• share opportunities with faculty for purposes of sharing opportunities with students

• provide opportunities for faculty to meet with employers

• devise marketing strategies and implement outreach to campus and external communities

o build and maintain close relationships with representatives and recruiters for job and internship development opportunities, candidate referrals and on- and off-campus recruiting efforts

o develop substantial database of opportunities for students; work with career counseling staff to identify students' interests and provide relevant jobs and internships

o actively promote opportunities to students and maintain web-based database system of position listings

o assist with the placement of students into job shadow and externship opportunities

o coordinate special recruiting efforts: partnership events, job fairs, networking events

• help to grow the alumni/ae/parent networking database

Career Advising:

• provide general career advising for STEM students with defined career goals regarding resumes, professional correspondence, job search and networking strategies and specific employment opportunities; help support them with the use of AI/resume scanning services to enhance their materials for specific employers/industries

• meet with STEM students as they apply for opportunities and connect them with appropriate contacts, including alums and employers for networking and guidance

• provide action steps to support the caseload of students

Program Development and Promotion:

• develop and facilitate STEM career-related workshops

• coordinate the STEM career journey speaker series

• publicize and promote STEM career programs and services

• develop, coordinate and lead STEM focused career trek(s) during the student break(s)

• assist with writing and publishing office communications

• present at Admissions events at peak times of the year and meet with individual recruits and prospective students/families

• represent the office at meetings, events, etc. as requested by Executive Director

• support capital campaign initiatives related to STEM

Administrative:

• Increase Salisbury Center campus presence through collaboration with faculty departments and STEM clubs/organizations in the development of programming and events

• Provide reports to the Provost’s Office to support the NSF grant

SUPERVISOR: Senior Associate Director of Employer Development, Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, hourly position. Normal campus office hours of work are 8:30am to 5:00pm during the academic year and a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours time period. This position is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Pay rate is $25.64/hr.

• Bachelor's degree. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline highly preferred.

• Knowledge of STEM majors and career fields

• Successfully have demonstrated skills in selling, a sense of urgency to completing tasks, and outstanding interpersonal skills.

• Experience with outreach, marketing and recruitment.

• Knowledge and experience with employer relations and other career programs preferred.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Ability to develop and manage projects with independence and accountability.

• Experience leading training sessions, designing and delivering workshops or teaching.

• Ability to execute in a pressured environment.

• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication, and management/supervisory skills.

• A motivated/enthusiastic work style.

• Appreciation of liberal arts curriculum

• Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel on behalf of the Salisbury Center

• Required technical knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Familiarity with GoogleDocs

• Preferred technical knowledge: Raiser's Edge and Handshake
