Job Description:
Herkimer College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Advisement Center Specialist to provide academic advisement for our students.
Major responsibilities of the position include:
Act as assigned academic advisor to students throughout all disciplines
Maintain individual records for each academic advisee
Explain and educate current students of various policies and procedures surrounding the requirements of academic degree programs
Provide academic advisement to students not assigned as an advisee (via phone, e-mail, walk-in, etc.) as needed
Communicate with advisors regarding discussions/actions pertaining to their assigned advisees when necessary
Counsel students regarding their request to change major of study (curriculum change advisement)
Assist students with creating first semester schedule during Registration Days and throughout the summer/winter
(Operate utilizing the forms, policies, and procedures of the Advisement Center
Assess the operation of the Center and preparation of reports as required
Provide information on other College student services such as Counseling Center, Academic Support Center, Transfer Advising, Career Counseling, Financial Aid, Registrar's Office and Student Accounts Office
Create and implement enrollment initiatives for continuing and returning students.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum experience and educational background:
A. Bachelor's Degree required/Master's Degree preferred
B. Computer skills necessary
C. Experience in academic advising preferred
D. Experience in teaching preferred
