Job Summary:
Hunter Mountain is part of the Vail Resort’s family and we’ve started hiring for our 2022-2023 season. The Head Coach position is responsible for training coaches and athletes, building on skills and fundamentals across a season long training program. Ideal candidates should be PSIA and USSS certified and have the ability to schedule and supervise staff for USSA racing, Middle & High school age races, USASA events, special events, and other daily Competition Services operations.
Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.
General Responsibilities:
Set up age and skill appropriate training environments
Transport and install necessary equipment for training, safety & security including closures, signage, training poles/panels, drills and other
Implement Team training across all age groups and be accountable for the quality of curriculum, products and services delivered
Execute against a long term athlete development focus as designed by USSS to facilitate skill development and athlete retention
Adaptability to varied training environments and interpersonal dynamics
Track attendance of coaches and athletes
Manage communication and tracking of weekly and daily safety topics, progressions, drills, and daily/seasonal group outcomes
Be a resource to coaches, athletes and parents
Communicate and work closely with Competition Services Manager
Help maintain quality and appearance of all on-mountain training facilities, signage and program imaging and other
Stay current and adhere to company guidelines, policies and procedures including but not limited to: Employee Ski & Ride Policy, safety, behavior, appearance, travel, time & attendance and other
Act as liaison between competition programs and the Ski & Ride School to integrate coaches into daily activity and support service of the school
Communicate effectively with Team Members including guest and employees
Ensure and execute teamwork within the team, departments and company
Attend and positively contribute to required trainings and meetings
Perform other duties as assigned and agreed to with Manager and/or Director
Job Qualifications:
USSA coaches license (Minimum 200) or foreign equivalent (level 300 would be ideal)
PSIA/AASI Certification Level 2; level 3 or equivalent preferred or previous experience teaching both skiing and race fundamentals
Adept at Skills Quest tasks and the development of logical skills progressions
Successfully pass background check
High School diploma or equivalent - required (College Degree - preferred)
Prior experience working with USSA, USASA, Middle School and/or High School races - required
Ability to ski while carrying more than 50lbs of equipment
Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; working November through April (minimum 4 days a week)
1+ years of supervisory or team lead experience - required
3+ years competition and mountain operations experience - preferred
Must be fluent in the English language, both written and verbal
Valid Driver’s License - required
