Vail Resorts In Person Hiring Event - Lift Operator, Product Sales, Housekeeping, Retail, Rental Tech - 1/19/2021 in Hunter, New York

Hunter Mountain is operating an in person hiring event on January 19, 2021 in order to hire Lift Operators, Product Sales Agents, Retail Sales, Rental Technician, and Housekeepers (job descriptions below). The event will take place from 2pm - 6pm at the Snowtubing Park.

As part of Vail Resorts, all Mount Snow employees receive a FREE ski pass providing access to all of our 34 iconic ski resorts across North America. Employees and dependents can ski anytime, including weekends, with no reservations required (with the exception of possible blackout days if limited terrain is open).

Job Descriptions for roles available:

Lift Operator: is the copilot, concierge and safety engineer of a multi-million dollar machine.  You are responsible for the safe, friendly and efficient travel of our guests and fellow teammates as they navigate premier terrain.  Make our guests feel welcomed by joining our team as a Lift Operator!

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor the operation of the lift continually and notify the appropriate personnel of any problems or unusual conditions

  • Maintain a safe work area, i.e., ramp heights, tools stored, mazes set up etc.

  • Adhere to all ski/ride policies, i.e., Responsibility Code, designated trails, skiing/riding on and off the clock etc.

  • Pleasantly greet, make eye contact, listen to and respond appropriately to every guest’s needs and or questions, in person, outside of the lift building

  • Actively and efficiently perform maze control

  • Abides by operating procedures, i.e., opening procedures, downloading procedures, last chair protocol, etc.

  • Follow and perform all company and departmental policies and procedures i.e., punctuality, attendance, dress and grooming standards, etc.

  • Ensure recycled materials are disposed of properly

  • Help to preserve our natural environment

  • Help guests and fellow teammates enjoy their time on the mountain

  • Remember that fun is our product- create fun, enjoy your work and share the contagious spirit


  • Must be able to stand outside in inclement weather for long periods of time

  • May lift up to 100 lbs., assistance is available for heavy lifting.

  • Must be able to make quick decisions regarding safety.

  • Must be able to maintain control and rational demeanor in emotionally charged situations involving guests and/or employees.

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed

Product Sales Agent:

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide EXCEPTIONAL guest service

  • Accurately and efficiently process lift access products, activity products, and/or ski school products while capturing guest data.

  • Make suitable product recommendations to meet guest needs and business objectives.

  • Handle high volumes of customer interaction while delivering exceptional service; internal & external.

  • Assist and follow through with resolution of guest complaints, concerns and suggestions.

  • Perform daily sales and closing procedures and be held responsible for your end of day point of sale audit.

  • Multi-task - interact with guests and perform computer sales functions at the same time.

  • Create a fun and professional work environment.

  • Follow company/department policies and procedures.

  • Participate in resort and departmental trainings as required.

  • Be willing to cross-train and work in all areas/locations of PSS as required.

  • Take initiative to perform “out of the box” duties/actions for internal and external guests.

  • Perform other duties as appropriate.


  • Passionate about guest service and the hospitality/ski industry.

  • Comfortable requesting guest information during every transaction.

  • Punctual and can start work at 7:30am each morning.

  • Possesses exceptional guest relations and communication skills.

  • Has an enthusiastic and outgoing personality.

  • Proficient on Microsoft applications and/or POS software.

  • Able to communicate fluently and effectively in English.

  • Able to retain a high volume of information to answer questions about all resort products.

  • Quick to learn and adjust to product and pricing changes.

  • Possesses strong organizational and teamwork skills.

  • Able to develop a quick rapport with internal and external guests.

  • Able to stay calm and perform well in busy and stressful situations.

  • At least 16 years of age.

Retail Sales Associate:

Resposibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Serves customers by establishing rapport, building customer confidence, providing accurate information, and promoting product through point of successful sale

  • Answer all questions, providing detailed information, and establishing trust with the customer to close of sale

  • Describing and promoting product in line with customer's express needs as well as promoting purchase of related products

  • Stocks shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise

  • Promote parts and accessories purchases

Qualifications :

  • Previous retail sales and customer service experience

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent

  • Passion for Skiing and/or Snowboarding

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Alpine Ski & Snowboard products and trends within the industry

  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service

  • Ability to communicate fluently with co-workers and guests in accurate spoken and written English

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule; including nights, holidays and weekends

Rental Technician:

Resposibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Enthusiastically engage with every guest to ensure that they feel: welcome, relaxed, comfortable and important

  • Keep pace in a high energy, extremely fast environment

  • Efficiently and accurately fit/adjust skis, boots, boards and bindings for rental check-out and return

  • Follow all company standards in regards safety protocol and rental contract completion

  • Move with a sense of urgency and complete all tasks in a timely manner


  • English fluency

  • Be able to kneel and stand repeatedly as well as be able to be on your feet all day

  • Be able to lift 30 pounds

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Consistently positive attitude

  • Snowsports experience (highly preferred)

  • Retail/hospitality experience (preferred)


Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintains a friendly and courteous demeanor at all times.

  • Washes shower walls and tub, cleans toilet, cleans mirrors, sinks and walls in order to have clean and sanitary guest restrooms.

  • Washes all hard floor areas by hand to remove dirt and soiled areas.

  • Dusts and polishes all furniture, fixtures and wall hangings including using a duster to reach vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.

  • Strips bed of all linen and remakes with fresh, checking bedspread, blankets and bed pads for cleanliness, replacing if soiled.

  • Operate vacuums weighing up to 35lbs., and lift/move heavy furniture

  • Replaces towels, soaps and all room amenities

  • Performs other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

  • Previous housekeeping experience in hotels or condos - Preferred

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. - Required

  • Able to stand for long periods of time in excess of 2 hours without sitting.

  • Basic communication in English- Preferred

  • High school diploma – Preferred
