2024 Summer Cornell Hospitality Internship Program, The Statler Hotel

Looking for a way to advance your career in the hospitality industry this summer? The Cornell Hospitality Internship Program is a uniquely-crafted developmental opportunity for the highly-motivated hospitality student. Cornell University's Statler Hotel invites hospitality students from around the country to come join us at "The Premier Hotel That Teaches", for an unforgettable summer in the Finger Lakes Region of central NY State. You will take a deep-dive into learning the technical skills of a front line operations position, you will be exposed to other operational and support departments, begin to develop and enhance your leadership skills through our training and seminars, be exposed to different areas of the industry through our guest speakers and field trips, and connect and build meaningful relationships that will last a lifetime! And because it is your summer break, we'll also have some fun too! Last summer we hosted 23 students from 17 different universities!

What you will be doing:

• Receive training and mentorship from our team of professional managers.
• Participate in projects, field trips, seminars and management meetings to enrich the learning experience.
• Be exposed to the world-famous Hotel School where we bring student learners face-to-face with successful entrepreneurs, high-level executives, global thought leaders and seasoned alumni.
• Take a deep dive into mastering the skills of a front-line hospitality position and walk out at the end of the summer with a solid experience to add to your resume

Internship Positions Available (please make note of your preferred department(s) in order of preference within your cover letter):

• Front Office - You will learn the skills of both bellstand and guest service agents. Training will include greeting guests, check in/out, parking, transportation, and luggage assistance.
  
• Taverna Banfi Restaurant - Taverna Banfi is the Statler's Tuscan inspired fine dining restaurant. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, and in-room dining. You will learn fine dining service.
  
• Regent Lounge - The Regent Lounge is our lobby bar, offering innovative beverages and globally inspired small plates with big flavors. You will learn upscale food and drink service, with a strong focus on beverage.
  
• Meetings & Events - You will assist in setup and service of a wide variety of events, including: meetings, conferences, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, cocktail receptions, weddings, and other high-profile special events.
  
• Culinary - You will learn basic sanitation and food preparation and get exposure to a wide range of culinary production and service.
  

The ideal candidate for this position

• Pursuing, or a recent graduate of, an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality, Culinary, Business or related degree
• Capable of a 12-week minimum commitment from mid-May to mid-August
  • The start date is May 20, 2024, or earlier
  • The end date is August 15, 2024, or later
• Previous work experience is helpful, but not necessary in most areas.
• Prior experience and some technical skills are required for culinary positions.

Benefits

• $16.50 per hour for non-tipped positions, $16.50 per hour training wage, $10.50 per hour plus tips for food service staff, and $15.00 per hour plus tips for bellstaff

Will I need to provide my own housing and transportation?

Yes! Housing and transportation are not provided, but a substantial number of summer sublets are available in the local community. Many of these sublets are within walking distance of The Statler Hotel or on a bus line. If preferred we will assist in getting you in contact with other interns, so you can arrange housing together.
