When you join PPGNY as a Community Organizer, you will help build community, political, and electoral power around reproductive health, rights, and justice and provides tools for New Yorkers to empower themselves and elevate their own voices.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Recruit for, cultivate and support all aspects of the Advocacy Collective with the maintenance of community organizers. The Advocacy Collective is a group of highly involved volunteers who support PPGNY's work through various activities: community outreach, issue-base lobbying, non-partisan voter engagement, political/neighborhood canvassing, advocacy work, event planning and hosting, grassroots fundraising, speaker’s bureau, patient escorting and college campus trainings and advocacy.

  • Cultivate and support the Planned Parenthood Generation Action chapters in the area by supporting on-campus programming, leadership development, and community engagement among chapters.

  • Work closely with our Utica area Community Organizer and with other community facing PPGNY teams.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns to educate and engage PPGNY activists and advance our legislative agenda.

  • Uplift PPGNY’s volunteer-based regional database and list building activities through our/the data management program VAN.

  • Provide support to identify and develop college activist groups on campuses across region. Provide agency support to campus campaigns and events.

  • Work with health center staff to provide Planned Parenthood of Greater New York’s patients with opportunities to get involved in pro-sexual and reproductive advocacy campaigns and take action to support specific legislative initiatives at the local, state, and national levels.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Requires one (1) to three (3) years of related and/or applicable organizing. experience in a political or social issue and a proven ability to motivate, train, and develop other leaders, especially volunteers with historically disenfranchised or marginalized populations.

  • Must have a strong interest in reproductive health and rights advocacy.

  • A demonstrated commitment to PPGNY’s mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice.

What makes you stand out:

  • Fluent in Spanish.

  • Working knowledge of Zoom platform and online systems.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.

Target Compensation:

  • $47,000-50,000 yearly

All positions at PPGNY require:

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
