We are looking for a highly motivated, performance-driven Executive Director of Communications who can successfully lead a cross-functional division within of our Marketing & Communications department and can drive strategic communications.
The Executive Director of Communications will work to ensure the continuous growth of communications and brand management within the College. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Marketing and Communications, the Executive Director will oversee strategic communication planning, PR/Media and crisis communications, and lead the visual brand and voice for the College. This position will work closely with their direct reports: Director of Communications, the Director of Creative Services, and the Director of Web Development and their staff, as well as the Director of Public Relations and college and UR leadership to develop strategic direction for all areas and channels of communications.
Set the annual / multi-year strategic communication plans for the College to follow.
Oversight for one of the most visible web bundles at Cornell, reaching millions of visitors.
Solve a wide variety of challenges each day from PR/Media and crisis communication planning, to storytelling, reputation, and engagement within the College.
Capitalize on the creativity and expertise of the team to bring new ideas to life.
Lead campus-wide discussions on best practices for strategic communications.
Lead and contribute to a fun, collaborative environment that values passion, humility, curiosity, and excellence.

Previous experience in leadership positions with the ability to drive an integrated communications strategy that includes advising the college and school deans on internal and external communication activity.
Provide strong strategic vision and general guidance to direct reports and colleagues.
Partner with UR's Media Relations team to achieve program and brand objectives.
Utilize data analytics to monitor and evaluate effectiveness; develop metrics to measure success.
Develop new and innovative communications plans to launch programs, position the brand, increase reputation, or elevate engagement.
Evaluate and ensure team has the necessary skills, tools, information and resources to succeed.
Maintain a high-performance culture where team members feel empowered to innovate to achieve results.
Have ten or more years of progressive experience in strategic communications, leading multi-functional teams and a bachelor's degree.
Demonstrate success in fast-paced, complex organizations with multiple constituents.
Be able to juggle multiple projects and competing priorities.
Communicate clearly and effectively.
Make decisions confidently and quickly with appropriate amount of information; Can bring accountability to the team.
Keep abreast of important trends and leading-edge MarCom techniques, particularly as it applies to higher education.
Bonus Points For:
Master's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
Google Analytics and KPI measurement experience specific to the web and content management.
Understanding of SEO planning, implementation, and impact.
Social Media oversight and how this marketing and communications channel can be used to enhance recruitment, reputation, and engagement.
