Graduate Education Specialist

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks an individual who possesses the ability to develop meaningful relationships with many different individuals (faculty, students and staff); who demonstrates professionalism and strong customer service skills in a fast paced environment. This individual will provide high-level support to the college's mission toward graduate education, supporting the Biomedical and Biological Sciences (BBS) Program, the DVM seeking PhD degree program, the Combined DVM-PhD program, and the Veterinary Investigator Program (VIP).


The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide student services to the Biomedical & Biological Sciences (BBS) PhD program, including advising current students on issues related to their graduate studies, and serving as the Graduate Field Assistant (GFA). Providing general graduate education administration, including but not limited to; assisting in the development and implementation of recruitment strategies and participating in recruitment functions, partnering with the Grad Ed Manager in the planning of annual graduate student events, and administering funds associated with student financial awards.
  • Serving as project leader for the Veterinary Investigator Summer Program (VIP), which includes: preparing the program timeline and calendar, managing the admissions process, working with the program director to match trainees with trainers, maintaining and updating the website, and supervise undergraduate VIP student coordinator.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2-4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Must handle difficult or stressful situations with courtesy, tact, firmness, and sensitivity, while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and exemplary customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform tasks independently.
  • Excellent computer skills with demonstrated competency in MS Office and other software programs
  • Experience with the planning and execution of events.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a student services office.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is a hybrid position located in Ithaca, NY with three days on campus and two days remote
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
