The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) is a unit in the Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Innovation (VPAI). The CTI's mission is to partner with the Cornell teaching community to explore and foster inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices. We facilitate the development of vibrant, challenging and reflective student-centered learning experiences. The full-time teaching support specialist will work with the CTI's International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP) to support international teaching assistants (ITAs) and graduate departments across Cornell to ensure that ITAs meet the required levels of oral English proficiency for university teaching. The ITAP supports this university expectation by providing language assessment services and language development opportunities (including courses and a summer intensive program) for international teaching assistants (ITAs).
The successful candidate for this full-time position will apply their knowledge of adult learning theory, experience in teaching English-as-an-additional language and ability to build rapport with their students to ensure a strong learning experience.Additionally, they will also contribute to a dynamic team environment as an active member of the CTI.
Teach ITAP courses
Design, implement, and assess online and in-person courses, using evidence-based, student-centered teaching methods.
Assess, rate, and report on student language proficiency.
Design, implement, and assess ITAP-related programs.
Hire, train and supervise Undergraduate Consultants working in ITAP
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with stakeholders within the CTI and across campus.

Master's degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or related field with 3-5 years of teaching English-as-an additional language experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Three, or more years, of oral proficiency assessment experience.
Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic, deadline-driven, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities.
Well-developed multi-tasking, organizational skills.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in their work.
Experienced with common desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office suite.
Proven ability to prioritize and exercise independent judgement.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative, willingness to learn new skills.
Experience working with International Teaching Assistants (ITAs) at a research university.
ACTFL OPI, IELTS certification, or equivalent.
Experience with instructional design and development of online, blended, and traditional courses in a Canvas environment. Experience with project management practices and managing timelines.
