The Facilities and Campus Services Grounds Department is seeking a skilled SO11 Landscape Crew Leader with strong management skills.
As the Crew Leader you will:
Lead, schedule, and perform skilled landscape maintenance and landscape construction tasks.
Plan and schedule landscape maintenance and landscape construction activities.
Assigns tasks to crew members.
Provide support and coordination for major campus events.
Interact with Professors and students for research, projects, and events.
What you need:
High School diploma or equivalent
Formal training in ornamental horticulture, agronomy, arboriculture, phytopathology, ornamental plant pests, construction technologies, or related field.
a minimum of 6 years experience with landscape maintenance, landscape construction, and related equipment operation (hand and motorized equipment).
Minimum of 3 years experience leading activities of landscape maintenance and/or construction work crews, materials, and equipment.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites. CDLB license required or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
NYS pesticide applicator's license category 3a required.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Must have previous experience reading plans, specifications, manuals, landscape blueprints and administration of Integrated Pest Management program to include proper identification of pest, proposed remedy and proper use of required pesticides as needed.
Must have experience in working in a fast paced, high volume, commercial landscaping/snow removal environments
If you also have an Associates Degree in Horticulture and Environmental sciences that's great, but it's required.
This is a union position within the United Auto Worker's bargaining unit (UAW). The rate of pay is $24.92/hr.
You should also know that this position is subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies, especially snow emergencies. Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demands. Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periods. May come into contact with sewage and dead animals. Regular exposure to bees and pollen Oversee staff to assure proper tool usage and technique is being followed. Ensure proper safety protocols are being followed, included all required PPE.
