City of Ithaca Lifeguarding Positions in Ithaca, New York


TITLE: Aquatic Positions:

Pool/Shift Supervisor (2 positions)
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) (2 positions)
Lifeguard (10-14 positions)

LOCATION: City of Ithaca - Alex Haley Pool

SALARY: Pool/Shift Supervisor: $18.20-$22.00/hour

Water Safety Instructor: $17.50/hour, plus $1.00/hour during swim lessons

Lifeguard: $15.75-$17.10/hour

Pool/Shift Supervisor: Facilitate weekly staff meetings for all aquatic staff. Supervises staff and assign daily tasks. Supervises the daily operation of AMHP during your assigned shift.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI): Instructs lifeguard/CPR/AED certification courses for potential AHMP staff. Implement bi-weekly in-service training for all aquatic staff. Develops, implements, and supervises a learn to swim program for the GIAC summer camp.

Lifeguard: Monitors swimming activities and ensures the rules, policies and safety procedures of the facility are followed. Responds to all emergencies and provides medical assistance. Rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning. Maintains a clean and safe environment for all patrons. Assists with daily maintenance, set-up, and clean-up.


Possession of appropriate certification for position (lifeguarding or WSI) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications as required by the New York State Sanitary Code at the time of appointment and maintenance of said certifications for the duration of employment.

Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age to be eligible for appointment.

Pool supervisor candidates must have at least one year in a supervisory position.
