Cornell University Part-Time/Casual Sales Assistants - Cornell Retail Services (Statler Hotel Lobby Shop) in Ithaca, New York

The Cornell Store serves the Cornell community by providing products and services to support teaching, research, and outreach. We support multiple units of the university by collaborating to provide retail services at physical locations in Ithaca, New York City, and online. We are committed to enhancing the student experience, facilitating engagement during special events, and helping people celebrate their pride in Cornell.
Cornell Retail Services is currently hiring for the casual (19 hours per week or less) Sales Assistant position to work at the Statler Hotel Lobby Shop location. The position involves variable/flexible hours, and generally includes some holiday and extended hours based on business needs. Our part-time/casual Sales Assistants will support our retail managers and area supervisors in the daily operations of a high-volume, multi-channel retail operation.
The Sales Assistants overall duties may include:
* Sales and Service - Greeting and welcoming customers and guests, demonstrating active selling , providing product information and guidance, and ensuring a high-quality customer service experience
* Visual Merchandising Assisting in maintaining the appearance of the sales floor, setting up seasonal promotions/visual displays, and regularly monitor assigned areas for product restocking and recovery
* Point of Sale Support - Operate cash registers, assist customers with check-out, and execute appropriate cash handling procedures
* Inventory Support Receive and process incoming merchandise and assist with special orders and store-to-store shipping requests; possibly handling seasonal perishable goods.
Required Qualifications:
* A high school diploma is required. College coursework, Associates degree or other formal training preferred.
* Strong customer service skills and moderate computer/systems competency.
* Demonstrated experience in being a team player, ability to juggle multiple priorities, and working in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move 25-50 pounds as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Must have the ability to work autonomously in a fast paced retail environment that services not only hotel guests but the Cornell community
* Prior retail sales experience or cash-handling experience strongly preferred
Starting at $14/hour
19 hours per week or less (Schedules are based on availability, business needs, and work performance; weekends, nights, and holidays may be required)
