Postdoctoral Associate in Experimental Sociolinguistics

The Cornell University Department of Linguistics seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Associate in experimental linguistics, beginning in the Summer or Fall of 2023. Candidates should have a PhD in linguistics or a related discipline by the start date. A strong background in programming is highly desirable. Interests in sociolinguistics and game design are a plus.

This position is funded for two years by a Cornell University New Frontiers Grant. The Postdoc Associate will receive a salary of $54,480 in the first year with an increase in the second year, along with fringe benefits. There are no teaching obligations. Time is allotted for the associate to pursue independent research interests.

The associate will collaborate with P.I. Sam Tilsen (Linguistics) and a team of undergraduate web engineers to design and develop an online system for collecting speech data from remote participants while they play a cooperative map-navigation game. The associate will subsequently use this system to conduct longitudinal experiments on the evolution of speech behavior in small networks of speakers.

Required qualifications: PhD in linguistics, cognitive science, or information science.

Desirable qualifications: Background in programming. Background in speech recognition.
