Temporary Seasonal MPS Application Reader -INFOSCIAPPLYThe (Cornell Bowers CIS) is a community of people committed to tackling some of the world's biggest challenges by working together across multiple colleges and two Cornell campuses. Cornell Bowers CIS is home to the three academic departments that power the information economy: Computer Science, Information Science, and Statistics and Data Science. It also shares faculty with Cornell Tech and is a partner in the department of Computational Biology. The college is known for bold new ideas expressed in innovative software systems, groundbreaking textbooks, inspiring curricula, imaginative experiments, and entrepreneurial and commercial impact. The examines the interactions between people and technology, how technology is shaping individual lives and social groups, and how the ways that people use new technology can shape new developments. Information Science currently has around 700 students enrolled among the three colleges for our undergraduate program and approximately 200 students in the graduate programs, split between the professional master's (MPS) and PhD programs. We are looking for a seasonal applicant reader to review the applications to our Master of Professional Studies (MPS) Program. To ensure that admissions decision deadlines are met, seasonal readers must be able to review quickly, carefully, and objectively while providing thorough and detailed notes. Applicants must have a willingness and ability to apply institutional priorities in accordance with training and accept feedback and quickly adapt to suggested modifications. The strictest levels of discretion and confidentiality must be maintained. Signing a confidentiality agreement is a requirement to being hired. Familiarity with Cornell's Information Science program and the MPS program is required. This work is done between January 2024 and March 2024 for approximately 10 - 20 hours per week. Readers will conduct a comprehensive review on average of 2-4 applications per hour. Training and work will be conducted both in person and remotely via Zoom. All applications are reviewed online. Candidates must have access to a computer and reliable, high-speed internet connection, and must have access to a private, secure location in which to work. Training class to review the implications of the SCOTUS decisions to graduate admissions is a mandatory requirement before application review can begin.
