Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in biomedical engineering, with an emphasis on engineering education research. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in engineering, STEM education, or a closely related field, with a demonstrated potential for success as an independent education research investigator and a classroom educator. Responsibilities include the pursuit of a program of scholarly research in Biomedical Engineering Education; teaching courses in Biomedical Engineering; and advising undergraduate and graduate students. The Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering is in the College of Engineering on Cornell's campus in Ithaca, New York. Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) is an exciting, emerging research field on Cornell's campus, with discipline-based education researchers across several science and engineering departments. The BME department has a decades-long culture of educational innovation and outreach, including the use of experiential learning approaches, the development of major outreach programs to local-area middle- and high-school science teachers, and a current project to add active learning elements to a core sequence of courses in the major. There is also a broad culture of education research and investment throughout the campus, and educational verve is one of President Pollack's key priorities for the University. Discipline-based education researchers on campus also collaborate with the Engineering Teaching Excellence Institute, the Center for Teaching Innovation, and the Active Learning Initiative. This community is filled with disciplinary experts who are passionate about their teaching, engaging in education research literature, and keen to discuss how to improve teaching and learning for students throughout multiple disciplines. The ideal candidate will benefit from strong collaborative ties to other discipline-based education researchers in the College of Engineering and across campus and to the major teaching/education centers, and will contribute to a culture of excellence in education research and of continual improvement in pedagogical approaches.
