JetBlue Airways Corp. Apprentice Maintenance Technician in Jamaica, New York

Position Expectations
Apprentice Technician Maintenance
Position Summary
The Apprentice reports to the Technician Maintenance Training Liaison. He/she is given guidance and mentorship until the Apprenticeship program requirements are met according to the General Maintenance Manual. This position observes and performs under supervision all facets of the preventive maintenance and repair of aircraft to ensure airworthiness, reliability and all technical aspects are documented in compliance with company policy. The Apprentice ensures and promotes safety and security standards in the workplace.
Essential Responsibilities
* Achieve Apprenticeship program completion by meeting set criteria, attending required training and passing the Technician entry exam
* Perform non-routine/routine maintenance, modification, alteration and inspection of aircraft in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines
* Observe and conduct under supervision; troubleshooting, application and disposition of Minimum Equipment List (MEL), Configuration Deviation List (CDL), Nonessential Equipment and Furnishings (NEF), and General Maintenance Manual (GMM)
* Under supervision, meet aircraft at transit stations, check aircraft maintenance logs, and respond to discrepancies entered into the log book
* Keep Crewleader and others informed as appropriate; conveys ideas and information clearly in both written and verbal communication
* Maintain JetBlue Airways facilities and equipment as required
* All other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
* Must be able to obtain a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate prior to position start date
* Possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets JetBlue Airways insurance standards
* Able to drive tugs, trucks, taxi aircraft or other company equipment
* Ability to communication effectively; in both oral and written communication
* Ability to crawl, bend, kneel, climb, and stoop frequently in confined spaces
* Knowledge of Maintenance & Engineering systems
* Ability to ship, receive, and track parts using shipping software
* Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance
* Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
* If an internal candidate, Crewmember must be in good standing (no Progressive Guidance currently and has not been within the last six months)
* Pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
* Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
* One (1) year of JetBlue experience if an internal candidate
* Knowledge of Airlines for America (A4A) Spec 100 and General Maintenance Manuals
* Valid Passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
* Ability to work well with others and complete tasks with supervision
* Ability to multi task and work under pressure in a dynamic environment
* Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Crewmember Expectations:
* Regular attendance and punctuality
* Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
* Working knowledge of Company manuals
* Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
* When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
* Must be an organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
* Promote JetBlue s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
* Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
* Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
* Upholding JetBlue s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
Equipment:
* Computer and other office equipment
* Obtain tools listed on the Minimum Tool List within thirty (30) days of employment
* Operate lift trucks, snorkel lift, boom lift and tractor after attending training
* Issued reflective safety vest and ear protection
* Ability to use handheld two way radios, headsets and/or phone
Work Environment:
* Work may be outdoors with seasonal weather
* Able to work all shifts (i.e., midnight, days, weekends, and holidays)
* Travel may be required (10%)
* Ability to work in elevated areas
* Work outdoors on the aircraft ramp side and/or the hangar with elevated noise levels
* Bids work schedule by seniority (days, swings, or midnight shift)
Physical Effort:
* Position requires extremely strenuous physical work involving objects in excess of 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently. Position requires crawling, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stooping frequently in confined spaces. (Very Heavy)
