Responsibilities

The Port Authority offers paid summer internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to operating, maintaining, and expanding the transportation infrastructure for one of the greatest economies in the world.

Assignments include hands-on projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication and team-building skills. The diversity of our businesses creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a first-class public agency

The Security Operations Program department is looking for a summer intern to join their team in the Facility Security Operations Aviation unit at John F. Kennedy International Airport . Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research of TSA security regulations and industry best practices.

  • Assisting with the planning/conducting the Annual AVSEC TTX exercises.

  • Assisting the Airport Security Credentialing Office with improving processing times, community outreach, including assisting in the monthly security awareness campaign, and Authorized Signatory meetings.

  • Daily outreach to Authorized Signatories to improve badge processing times.

  • Assisting with statistical analysis of badging data

  • Compiling and disseminating daily activity reports

  • Assisting with file management

  • Assisting in the review of various standard operating procedures.

  • Performing additional tasks as requested to include white papers, power point presentations, etc.

  • Compiling minutes for various meetings such as the monthly Authorized Signatory meetings and other security meetings

  • Assisting with contract administration by means of reviewing invoices and tracking expenses

About the Security Operations and Programs Department:

The mission of the Security Operations & Programs Department (SOPD) is to develop, manage, and implement civilian security programs and projects that preserve life and property and increase levels of protection. SOPD’s programs safeguard Port Authority facilities from threats to physical infrastructure, unauthorized access to restricted areas, cyber security attacks, and breaches of protected security information.

Qualifications

  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for the upcoming Fall 2022 school semester.

  • We are seeking interns who are talented, driven and who have a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region.

  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research and applicable technical skills.

This will be a hybrid internship opportunity, meaning that it will be virtual and in-person throughout the summer.

*This internship is expected to be a full time internship lasting at least 12 weeks with option to extend through the end of the year .
