The opportunity

The selected candidate will:

  • Be responsible for the management, direction and leadership of a program, which consists of a group of related projects, subprograms, and/or program activities, in alignment with strategy, commitments and goals

  • Be responsible for and manage the overall design, building, and testing of IT programs, services and solutions - on time, within budget, meeting client/business requirements and in compliance with all relevant standards

  • Lead project teams consisting of multi-functional, global and virtual groups and directly supervises staff, ensuring the appropriate expectations, principles, structures, tools and responsibilities are in place to deliver the program and deliver excellence

  • Facilitate processes; help remove impediments and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement design by defining and integrating standards, patterns, tools, and techniques within the platform and between the platform and consuming systems/applications

  • Builds successful partnership and persuades and influences internal and external parties involved across diverse disciplines to promote engagement with the program

  • Proactively identifies risks and issues on programs and leads the team to develop risk management and issues management plans

This is a hybrid role where the selected candidate will also:

  • Be an experienced Solution Train Engineer to lead the 4-ART (Agile Release Train) Solution Train leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework. STEs are servant leaders and coaches for the Solution Train; they are expected to facilitate and guide the work across all ARTs

Your key responsibilities

  • Within large projects, defines and maintains realistic project plans, supervises progress against agreed quality and performance criteria and ensures programs of work are correctly allocated and resourced

  • Performs the relevant program management processes for traditional and Agile programs for product development

  • Exhibits the behaviors of a Lean-Agile Leader as follows:

  • Establish and communicate quarterly / appropriate calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs).

  • Continuous education of the team on PI and other quarterly events.

  • Define, facilitate and improve the processes involved in defining and updating portfolio artifacts including Strategic themes, portfolio vision, portfolio backlog, and lean budgets.

  • Facilitate PI Planning (including all associated work on Pre & Post PI Planning). Handle the necessary adjustments to take into consideration COVID-19 restrictions.

  • Summarize Team PI Objectives (At RTE Level) and Program PI objectives into Solution PI Objectives (At STE level) and publish them for visibility and transparency.

  • Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities.

  • Facilitate SAFe prescribed synchronization meetings at appropriate intervals.

  • Provide transparency in estimating features and capability estimation by teams and roll-up as needed.

  • Evangelize & coach leaders, teams, and Project Managers, Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices.

  • Presents program plans, roadmaps, risks and recommendations to senior business leaders within EY

  • Identify resource gaps proactively

  • Understand and operate within the EY Technology Budgets and ensure adherence to EY processes

  • Works with project managers to provide support and guidance for the individual projects within a program of work and may manage people / teams

  • Leads the development and improvement of project governance framework for use across programs of work

  • Builds long-term relationships with internal and external IT teams and business leaders

  • Leads the development of RFP/RFI process along with the Product Owner

Skills and attributes for success

  • Expert knowledge of Program Management, Product Development, IT governance formulation, and team management

  • Mastery of SAFe, Scrum and Kanban is essential.

  • Leading and coaching teams in SAFe adoption.

  • Planning, Executing PIs; Sprint Reviews, Sprint Demos and Sprint Retrospectives.

  • Remove roadblocks reported by the team, which could require cross-team collaboration and or escalation, possibly up to executive leadership.

  • Knowledge of IT risk management, IT standards and policies formulation

  • Strong financial acumen ensuring financial goals are met across multiple projects and revenue enhancement opportunities are modelled and implemented where applicable

  • Communicate and work directly with the Product Owner to consistently maintain the product backlog and handle changes both to the product backlog, executing sprint and prioritizing the backlog to generate higher business value.

  • Robust understanding of IT infrastructure design and delivery.

  • Experience with managing geographically diverse teams and work towards developing best practices.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, IT, Science, other Technical qualification or related field preferred.

  • Agile methodologies Certification (e.g. SAFe, SCRUM, other) or Project management certification like PMP, PMI-ACP.

  • More than 15 years in a corporate IT environment;

  • 10-15 years of experience working under agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, XP, DevOps, etc.).

  • 10-15 years as a program manager; Solution and / or Release Train engineer

  • Demonstrates understanding of scope, schedule and planning; understanding of time management, resource management cost management. Possesses good project management skills.

  • Good experience in client-facing roles

  • Experience of working in product development programs

  • Demonstrable experience in structuring and executing complex projects/programs as a Program Manager

  • Experience applying formal project management methodologies and disciplines in both traditional and Agile programs

  • Experience establishing governance structures that facilitate and drive decision-making, trade-offs and resolution paths

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Program Management Professional (PgMP)
