The Salvation Army Office Manager/Social Service Manager (Kingston Corps) in Kingston, New York
Overview
Reporting to the Commanding Officers, the Office Manager/ Social Ministries Coordinator will serve in a vital community ministry role for this corps service area. They will be integrally involved in the ministry of the Corps and in the promotion of the Mission of The Salvation Army. The Office Manager/ Social Ministry Coordinator should remain teachable and possess a passion to further the cause of The Salvation Army.
The role will oversee all aspects of the food pantry program including but not limited to ordering, stocking shelves, preparing bags and scheduling of client appointments, under the direction of the Corps Officers. This role includes managing volunteer opportunities for community stakeholders at The Salvation Army Kingston Corps. They will assist in growing social ministries program here at The Salvation Army Corps as indicated below in general/ specific responsibilities
Responsibilities
The OM/SMC will be responsible for but not limited to interviewing clients, seeking assistance. and making referrals to other area agencies.
Maintain client records including statistical information.
It is expected that the OM/SMC will keep the front office and food pantry organized and stocked, as well as in compliance with local and Salvation Army standards.
Must be able to liaise with external (Food Bank, United Way, City harvest, etc.) and off-site (DHQ) personnel.
Promote the Mission of The Salvation Army in all endeavors
Daily operations of food pantry, including inventory of ordering food from vendors
Answer and direct phone calls appropriately; handle all client inquires.
Assist in program area including but not limited to Christmas seasonal assistance, summer camp recruitment and registration, community relation, and volunteer recruitment
Assist with identifying and drafting grant proposals and funding sources
Organize clients files; establish community resources shareable information
Maintain statistical reports of activities; enter monthly reporting database as needed
Ensure that all communications and concerns related to operation of the OM/SMC, handled in accordance with the proper protocols.
Attend mandatory department in-service training meetings, supervisory meetings.
Supervise and train volunteers and staff as needed.
Present The Salvation Army program to the public or civic groups
Contact other social service agencies regarding the client situation for the purpose of making interagency referrals and for the development of resources for the client
Payroll and Time Keeping
Employee Advocacy between DHQ and Corps
Manage Food Ordering Grants (Governmental, Private, Other…)
Manage and upkeep of office equipment and supplies
Assist with Christmas effort
Social Services stats (Internal and External)
All other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer
Qualifications
Fluent in English and/or Spanish
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field or a minimum of 3-5 years of related experiences preferred.
Abide by the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army
Experience in office management
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong time management, communication and organizational skills including computer skills.
Ability to understand the obligations, functions, programs, and services of the agency and their relation to staff, clients, community, and general social welfare, and ability to appraise these relationships
The ability to express and to maintain relationships within and outside the agency in a professional manner.
Ability to use supervision constructively for one’s own professional development and growth
Must be detailed oriented, self-starter who is capable of creative multitasking while adhering to deadlines.
Possess a driver’s license with the willingness and ability to drive a 12- passenger van.
