Adirondack Winery Lead Tasting Room Associate in Lake George, New York

Lead Associate Position Summary

This is not the average retail or restaurant supervisor job that comes loaded with corporate rules and policies, repetitive tasks, customer complaints, and heavy issues… We aren’t saving lives here, we’re selling wine! In these uncertain times, we are bringing smiles to faces one bottle at a time and being a part of our leadership team, you will make that happen for tens of thousands of people each year!

As a Lead Associate, you will assist our Tasting Room Manager and Assistant Managers with the daily operations of our Tasting Rooms in Lake George and Queensbury. In the absence of Tasting Room Management, Leads oversee daily operations and supervise the Tasting Room Associates on duty. Your strong leadership skills, customer service, sales, communication, task management, and organizational skills will contribute greatly to the success of Adirondack Winery by working as a team to achieve attainable goals in revenue, reservations, club memberships, wine subscriptions, and more. Wine experience is a plus, but not required - we will train. However, we hope you love to learn about wine, love the Adirondacks, and the idea of working for a small, family-owned company where your work matters!

Job Responsibilities Include:

Staff Management - In the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager, the Lead Associate must keep Tasting Room Associates on task, on goal, following policies and procedures, etc. Report staff issues to management in an accurate and timely manner. must be able to run the host stand and manage the TOCK reservation system, warmly welcoming guests, making reservations, upselling tasting experiences, managing associate timing of reservations seated, contacting guests as needed to stay on time

Staff Training - Assist in training new associates, as well as keeping existing associates trained on new issues or information as they arise, facilitate re-training where needed, etc.

Wine Tasting - Welcome & Serve customers wine at the tasting bar using comprehensive knowledge of wine and the winery, with optimum sales performance as the goal. Serve as a primary example of the best way to execute a wine tasting and sales to other employees.

Sales - Utilize excellent sales skills to sell winery products and services to customers with both winery goals and customer needs in mind, sharing these skills and knowledge with associates as well.

Customer Service - Be able to knowledgeably sell to customers, answer customer and employee questions and facilitate solutions through complete knowledge of winery services, products and policies in a professional and friendly manner - via in-person, email, and phones.

Under the guidance of the Tasting Room Manager and Assistant Manager, work to achieve Winery financial goals with the company’s core values always in mind, leading other Tasting Room staff to achieve these goals as well.

Communication - Play an important part in facilitating communication between Tasting Room Staff and Tasting Room Management and vice-versa. Be fully aware of company communications (from headquarters and managers) and share this information with tasting room staff. Follow company social media accounts and email newsletters to stay apprised of what customers are seeing.

POS: Develop complete knowledge of POS as it pertains to the Tasting Room. Be able to execute all sales and reporting functions, data entry, product maintenance, inventory, user editing, customer maintenance, promo and gift card maintenance, etc.

Opening & Closing the store, including night bank deposits. This requires handling money in a responsible and confidential manner. Inventory - Assist Tasting Room Manager and Assistant Manager with inventory, including backroom supplies and retail items including receiving, stocking, inventory data entry, notifying management when low on items, etc.

Technology -Full knowledge for utilization of, operation of, and troubleshooting of Tasting Room technology, including computers, printers, humanity, wine direct, sync, printers, ipads, receipt printers, wifi, phones, office equipment, etc.

Keep the tasting room and items within it neat, clean and safe.

Light Food Prep - Food prep according to daily demands, inventory management, accordance with health and safety protocols, operate small kitchen equipment, make and serve slushies, cocktails, charcuterie boards and event platters.

Supply Organization - Full knowledge of the location of Tasting Room supplies, tools, marketing materials, etc; as well as keeping them neat, clean and stocked.

Administrative - Under the guidance of Tasting Room Management, use computer, written, phone, and professional skills to communicate with other employees, customers, clients, etc.

Team Player - Understanding that Adirondack Winery is a small business and as such, all employees must be prepared to jump in as needed on a variety of tasks with the well-being of the company as the ultimate goal. At certain times of year, the Lead Associate may be called upon to represent Adirondack Winery at off-site event, or work in other areas of the business in order to accommodate business needs.

Events - Must be able to run tasting room events in coordination with marketing, tasting room managers, and assistant manager of special events. Including but not limited to club week promotions, bus groups, private tastings and uncork and craft nights.

Physical demands: The ability to frequently lift, move and load cases of wine (approx. 35lbs), Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time, sitting or standing. Constantly operate a computer and other office types of machinery such as calculator, copier, and printer.

Working conditions: The ability to work in a retail setting with multiple people and/or distractions, with many customers and employees. THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION. Must be able to maintain reliable transportation to get to and from work sites.

Work Schedule: A minimum of 40 hours per week is required, occasional overtime may occur. We are open 7 days per week and 12 hours per day at peak season, so shift times will vary: covering weekends, nights, days, swing shifts, etc. Covering for staff members who “call out” on short notice is also required. Vacations longer than 5 days will be prohibited from June through September.

Pay: $16-$18/hour + TIPS + up to 10% of salary in performance-based bonuses
