Kent Family Growers Agricultural Equipment Operators in Lisbon, New York

4 Fulltime Seasonal H-2A jobs available 4/15/2024- 11/15/2024.

Crops: Melons, watermelon, potatoes, corn, squash, broccoli, brussels sprouts, greens, and herbs.

Workers must be able to operate tractors for fertility application, primary and secondary tillage, cultivation, transplanting and seeding. Workers will also perform manual labor including hand harvest of a wide variety of vegetables (and strawberries) using knives, shears and other tools, hand weeding, crop thinning, transplanting, seeding, tomato trellising and irrigation setting. Care must be taken to prevent damage to machinery at all times and to crops during harvest and post harvest operations. Workers may participate in packinghouse duties including washing, sorting, boxing, weighing, palletizing and loading trucks with produce. Must be able to lift weights of 50 -60 lbs to a height of 5 feet. Employer will furnish to employee at no cost all tools and equipment required to perform duties assigned. Field temperatures range from 10 to 100 degrees F. Work continues in rain and snow. Rain gear is provided. Smoking is not allowed on the farm. Random drug testing may be required post hire at employer's expense. Employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product.

The job requires a minimum of 3 months prior experience working on a diversified crop farm handling both manual and machine tasks with commodity production and harvest activities. This is a specific skill set that general farm labor experience does not satisfy. Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized activities with accuracy and precision. Persons seeking employment as experienced farm workers must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday: 7:00 am to 12:00pm *(1 hour lunch); and 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Saturday: 7:00 am to 12:00pm noon. Schedule may vary due to weather and crop conditions. Actual hours worked can vary throughout the season - during peak periods the hours worked can be higher.

Hand weeding must be done at a rate of at least 75% of the crew average pace (in row feet per hour).

Requirements:

  • The job requires a minimum of 3 months prior experience working on a diversified crop farm handling both manual and machine tasks with commodity production and harvest activities.
  • Must be able to lift weights up to 60 lbs with assistance.

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Repetitive movements, extensive pushing/pulling, extensive walking, frequent stooping/bending.
