New Directions Youth and Family Services Seasonal Lifeguard in Lockport, New York

Position: Seasonal Lifeguard (5/2024 - 8/2024) Compensation: $19.00 - 20.00/hr, based on experience

Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday, 2:00p - 8:30p

Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to join our Recreation team. Responsibilities include ensuring participant safety, evaluating and teaching swimming, and directing lifeguarding. Minimum Education and Skills

  • High school Diploma/GED(required)

  • Valid driver's license for 1+ year(required)

  • Red Cross Lifeguard certification including first aid training and professional rescuer CPR(required)

Full Job Description

Job Title: Lifeguard Department: Residential Services

Title of Immediate Supervisor: Recreation Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides overview of aquatic program to include scheduling, staff training, and youth and public safety. Collaborate with recreation team on ensuring safety and goal setting for individual youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  1. Develops aquatic program to benefit the youth of New Directions, Youth & Family Services, Inc.

  2. Ensures the safety of all participants and staff.

  3. Evaluates swimming ability of all residents and conducts swimming classes for non-swimmers.

  4. Directs lifeguarding.

  5. Maintains Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR certification provided by the agency.

  6. Assures challenge by choice programming.

  7. Monitor inventory and request replacement of pool supplies as needed.

  8. Attends and participates in recreation team meetings.

  9. Attends all mandatory in-service training and regularly attends supervision meetings.

  10. All other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

SKILL, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED);

• One to three months related experience and/or training preferred.

• Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard certification including first aid training and professional rescuer CPR.

  8. Ability to pass annual physical for Category 3 job classification in accordance with New Directions Employee Health policy.

  9. Must comply with Agency safety standards and be responsible for own actions and conduct concerning safety and healthy working conditions.
